Business

Eidai Co., Ltd., founded in 1946, is a manufacturer of housing interior materials that focuses on the Housing Materials Business (approximately 84% of consolidated net sales), which manufactures and sells flooring, interior doors, storage units, and housing equipment, and the Wood-Based Board Business, which manufactures particleboard. In addition to multiple domestic production sites (Yamaguchi/Hiranoo, Tsuruga, Osaka, Onahama, etc.), the company has built a materials procurement and production system utilizing its Vietnamese subsidiary, Eidai Vietnam Co., Ltd. Major customers include housing and building materials distributors such as Sumitomo Forestry (19.3% of net sales) and SMB Kenzai (12.9% of net sales), and the company supplies a wide range of interior materials for both residential and non-residential buildings. Through material recycling of particleboard made from construction waste as raw material, the company also promotes an environmentally conscious business model.

Business Model

In the Housing Materials Business, the company procures and manufactures base materials such as particleboard in-house and within the group, then adds value by processing them into flooring, interior doors, storage units, and housing equipment for sale to housebuilders and building materials distributors. In the Wood-Based Board Business, the company sells raw particleboard externally while also supplying it internally to the Housing Materials Business, pursuing a vertically integrated model that enhances cost competitiveness. The company aims to improve profit margins through expanded sales of high-value-added brands (Grand Majeste, Meiju, etc.) and price optimization.

Company Strengths

Established an integrated system covering in-house particleboard manufacturing (Tsuruga Plant, EN Board, Eidai Onahama) through to the manufacturing and sale of housing interior products. By supplying base materials within the group, the company stabilizes procurement costs, and Wood-Based Board Business sales for FY2026 (ending March 2026) expanded to ¥11,595 million (up 13.6% year on year).

Sales to the largest customer, Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd., remained at a high level of ¥14,233 million (19.3% of total sales), up from ¥12,998 million in the previous year. The company maintains a nationwide sales network of 7 sales departments and 9 sales offices, pursuing both increased share among existing customers and development of new customers in parallel. Housing Materials Business sales for FY2026 (ending March 2026) reached ¥62,055 million (up 2.0% year on year).

Through Eidai Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Ninh Binh Province, Vietnam), which commenced operations in 2012, the company maintains a stable system for procuring materials, production, and supply to Japan from overseas. This complements domestic production sites, and expanding sales both within and outside Vietnam is also positioned as a key initiative in the medium-term management plan.

ENVALITH's Perspective

At ENBoard Co., Ltd., which has posted losses for four consecutive periods since commencing operations in November 2022, an impairment loss of ¥5,171 million was recorded as an extraordinary loss in FY2026 (ending March 2026). As a result, net loss attributable to owners of the parent widened to ¥2,846 million. Although the book value of fixed assets was substantially reduced, the company's long-term borrowings (portions in breach of financial covenants) remain outstanding in two tranches of ¥11,201 million and ¥3,013 million, and whether continued consent from financial institutions not to exercise their right to accelerate maturity can be maintained remains a point requiring ongoing attention.

Despite headwinds from sluggish new housing starts (an external factor), the Housing Materials Business performed solidly, with net sales of ¥62,055 million (up 2.0% year on year) and segment profit of ¥4,341 million (up 10.8% year on year). Meanwhile, the Wood-Based Board Business showed an improving trend, with segment loss narrowing to ¥1,624 million (from ¥2,271 million in the previous period), though challenges remain in achieving stable production. Narrowing the loss in the Wood-Based Board Business is essential to achieving the consolidated earnings forecast for FY2027 (ending March 2027) (operating profit of ¥1,600 million, net profit of ¥2,000 million), and the feasibility of this plan warrants careful monitoring.

Cash and cash equivalents stood at ¥4,857 million at period-end (down from ¥7,120 million in the previous period), a decrease of ¥2,262 million, marking a substantial decline for the second consecutive period. The establishment of a ¥2,500 million credit line (with Resona Bank, secured) in April 2026 aimed at supporting ENBoard Co., Ltd. underscores the magnitude of the group's funding needs. While the equity ratio remains at a certain level of 51.3%, non-controlling interests have widened to negative ¥4,732 million, and the impact of ENBoard Co., Ltd.'s deteriorating finances on the group's consolidated financial position continues to be significant.

Growth Strategy

A medium-term plan built on two pillars: raising market share and structurally transforming the Housing Materials business, and improving profitability at EN Board Corporation

A strategy combining share gains with existing customers, development of new customers, expanded sales of high-value-added products, and price optimization, aiming to grow sales and profit even amid a slump in new housing starts. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), segment profit rose 10.8% year on year to ¥4,341 million, achieving an improvement in profit margin.

The company is promoting a shift away from dependence on new construction through the launch of the new brand "Material Selection," the publication of a catalog for renovation applications, and a review of delivery lead times. It is also strengthening sales in the non-residential field in parallel, aiming to diversify its medium- to long-term earnings base. Initiatives have begun, but quantitative disclosure of their sales contribution remains limited.

The company is pursuing productivity improvements through reductions in line downtime and defect losses, together with the development of new customers for structural, decorative, and flooring-substrate particleboard. Segment loss narrowed from ¥2,271 million in the prior period to ¥1,624 million in the current period, but challenges remain serious, including four consecutive years of losses, recognition of impairment losses, and breach of financial covenants.

In April 2026, the company concluded an overdraft agreement with Resona Bank (credit line of ¥2,500 million, secured) to establish a framework for providing financial support to EN Board Corporation. It has already obtained consent from existing financial institutions not to exercise their right to accelerate maturity. Ongoing management of financial covenant compliance has become the top management priority.
