Business

Canare Electric is a specialist manufacturer founded in 1970, focused on Broadcasting & Communication Cables, Connectors, Passive Equipment, and Electronic Equipment. In Japan, the company supplies high-performance cables and BNC connectors to broadcasters and the electrical installation market, while overseas it operates wholly owned subsidiaries in the United States, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Europe, and the Middle East. Its main customers include broadcasters, video production companies, and electrical contractors, and it handles large-scale projects such as equipment supply for the reconstruction of the NHK Broadcasting Center and international sporting events. Consolidated net sales for FY2025 (ending March 2025) reached a record high of ¥13,115 million, with the overseas sales ratio reaching approximately 52%.

Business Model

The company manufactures in Japan (Canare Harness, Canare Connected Products, Canare System Works) and China (Shanghai), and sells directly to regional markets through wholly owned sales subsidiaries in nine countries worldwide. It adopts a build-to-forecast production system, supplying products to the broadcasting, electrical installation, and distribution markets. By investing ¥544 million in R&D, the company continues to develop high-value-added products such as 4K/8K-compatible products and IP transmission devices, maintaining price competitiveness and technological superiority.

Company Strengths

Starting with the establishment of a US subsidiary in 1983, the company sequentially established wholly-owned sales subsidiaries in South Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore, India, Europe, and the Middle East. Overseas sales in FY2025 reached ¥6,885 million, up 8.5% year on year, with the Middle East expanding rapidly at 37.9% growth. The CANARE brand, built through years of track record, continues to support solid demand in distribution markets across regions.

At the end of FY2025, total net assets stood at ¥19,048 million while total liabilities remained low at ¥2,026 million, resulting in an equity ratio exceeding approximately 90%. The company maintains a policy of funding working capital and capital expenditures principally from its own funds, and in addition to cash and cash equivalents of ¥7,606 million, it actively manages assets through long-term deposits and investment securities. Financial leverage risk is extremely low.

The company secured multiple large-scale domestic projects, including continued orders for the reconstruction of the NHK Broadcasting Center, delivery of broadcast relay equipment for the Tokyo World Athletics Championships, and large-scale video system renovation projects at public racing venues. Overseas, it also captured demand for 4K video production equipment upgrades in the United States, South Korea, China, and Europe. As a result, the Japan segment profit in FY2025 reached ¥1,265 million, up 71.1% year on year.

ENVALITH's Perspective

Operating profit for Q1 of FY2026 (ending December 2026) fell sharply to ¥380 million (down 25.0% year on year), but the main cause was a one-off factor: the reversal from the NHK project booked in the prior period. The electrical installation market was roughly flat year on year, while overseas operations remained solid with revenue growth in China, South Korea, Europe and elsewhere. The full-year earnings forecast (operating profit of ¥1,480 million, up 6.4% year on year) was left unchanged. Although the Q1 progress rate of 25.7% is below the historical average, given the seasonality skewed toward the second half, the risk of a forecast revision at this stage is judged to be limited.

The US segment posted revenue of ¥423 million (up 3.2% year on year), showing growth, but segment profit fell by more than half to ¥14 million (down 49.7% year on year). The company itself has explicitly cited the impact of US tariff policy, an external factor that could continue going forward. As the US accounts for roughly 12–13% of full-year revenue, it is an important market, and whether tariff costs can be passed on, along with competitive dynamics, will be key points to watch for full-year earnings.

In Q1 of FY2026 (ending December 2026), the overseas sales ratio rose sharply to 51.2% (from 43.7% in the same period of the prior year), indicating progress in global diversification, which is positive over the medium to long term. On the other hand, selling, general and administrative expenses increased to ¥955 million (up 1.9% year on year), as active sales promotion, product development, and human capital investment weighed on profit. The gross profit margin declined to 41.5% (from 43.3% in the same period of the prior year), and a recovery in revenue growth capable of absorbing the cost increases will be key to achieving the full-year targets.

Growth Strategy

Pursuing medium- to long-term growth through three pillars: aggressive overseas expansion, high-value-added solutions, and next-generation product development

Promoting sales expansion at overseas locations in China, South Korea, Europe, Southeast Asia, and other regions. In Q1 of FY2026 (ending March 2026)... actually the fiscal period is stated as 2026年12月期 which refers to fiscal year ending December 2026. Overseas sales ratio rose to 51.2%, achieving revenue growth across multiple regions: China +22.8%, South Korea +15.5%, and Others +26.1%. The diversification effect of offsetting domestic market fluctuations with overseas performance is functioning effectively.

To reduce dependence on the broadcasting and electrical installation markets, the company is promoting new market development in fields such as automotive and machine vision. By applying existing Cable and Connector technologies to new applications, it aims to build a stable revenue source that is not affected by the equipment renewal cycle of the broadcasting market.

Promoting a shift from standard product sales to customized solutions tailored to customer needs, aiming to enhance added value and avoid price competition. This has been confirmed through track records such as the renovation project for the Nagoya International Conference Hall and a large-scale 4K system project for a major racecourse.

In anticipation of the IP-ization of broadcasting and adaptation to next-generation communication standards, the company is promoting the development and dissemination of optical products, electronic equipment, and IT network-related products. Product development and human capital investment are being actively pursued, and this investment is reflected in the increase in SG&A expenses (+1.9% year-on-year) in Q1 of FY2026 (ending March 2026).
