RINKO CORPORATION
9355・Standard Market・Warehousing & Harbor Transportation Services
Business
Rinko Corporation, founded in 1905, is a diversified business group with over 120 years of history headquartered in Niigata City. The company's core is its Transportation Segment (revenue of ¥9,988 million), centered on port transportation, warehousing, freight forwarding, and trucking businesses. It also comprises three other segments: the Hotel Business Segment (revenue of ¥2,453 million), which operates the ANA Crowne Plaza Niigata; the Real Estate Segment (revenue of ¥300 million), which leases and sells real estate owned by the company; and the Related Business Segment (revenue of ¥1,114 million), covering construction machinery maintenance, insurance agency operations, industrial waste treatment, and other businesses. Its main customers are shippers, shipping companies, and construction contractors that use the Port of Niigata, and the company maintains a regionally rooted business foundation built on Niigata's international port and transportation infrastructure. The company is listed on the Standard Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Business Model
In the Transportation Segment, the company utilizes its own infrastructure—including harbor wharves, warehouses, and cargo-handling machinery at Niigata Port—to provide integrated port cargo handling, warehousing, and land transportation services, ensuring continuous cargo volume. The Hotel Business Segment increases occupancy rates through synergies among accommodation, banquets, and restaurants, while the Real Estate Segment generates stable, high-margin (52.4%) earnings from rental income on owned properties. This structure allows each segment to complement the others, supporting overall consolidated earnings.
Company Strengths
Since its founding in 1905, the company has consistently handled port cargo handling, warehousing, and freight forwarding at Niigata Port, and owns proprietary infrastructure such as harbor wharves, its own warehouses, and cargo handling machinery. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Transportation Segment's handling volume reached 5,353 thousand tons (up 1.5% year on year), and its long-accumulated cargo handling experience and logistics expertise form a barrier to entry.
The Real Estate Segment, which primarily leases company-owned real estate, achieved a segment profit margin of 52.4% in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Against net sales of ¥300 million, segment profit was ¥161 million, up 22.8% year on year. The stability of rental income and a low-cost structure support this high profitability, contributing to earnings stability for the group as a whole.
In April 2025, the company completed a large-scale renovation of guest rooms on the mid- to upper floors, upgrading the facility as a whole. Following the renovation, the occupancy rate has remained at a high level, and in FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Hotel Business Segment achieved net sales of ¥2,453 million (up 5.2% year on year) and segment profit of ¥143 million (up 20.8% year on year).
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
In FY2026 (ending March 2026), net sales rose to ¥13,856 million (up 2.3% year on year) and operating profit rose to ¥491 million (up 3.7% year on year), marking two consecutive years of increased revenue and profit. Against a backdrop of increased cargo volume handled at Niigata Port as a whole, the Transportation Segment, Hotel Business Segment, and Related Business Segment all recorded higher sales. On the other hand, the Transportation Segment struggled, with segment profit down 30.3% year on year due to increased subcontracting costs and personnel expenses stemming from price inflation. Net profit doubled to ¥1,065 million due to special factors including the recognition of deferred tax assets (income tax adjustment of -¥385 million) and gain on sale of investment securities of ¥246 million, but the improvement in underlying earning power remained limited. Externally, soaring crude oil and energy prices driven by the situation in Iran, together with domestic price inflation, continue to be a headwind on the cost side. For FY2027 (ending March 2027), the company forecasts net sales of ¥13,900 million, operating profit of ¥530 million, and net profit of ¥510 million.
Growth Strategy
Strengthening the revenue base of the Transportation Segment, leveraging owned assets, and expanding business through M&A
Through continuous revision of handling fees and efforts to capture spot cargo centered on general freight, the company aims to absorb cost increases from rising prices via price pass-through and improve profitability. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), total handling volume was 5,353 thousand tons (up 1.5% year on year), showing steady volume, but segment profit declined 30.3% year on year, leaving a challenge to address.
On April 1, 2026, the company acquired a 99.1% voting interest, making it a consolidated subsidiary (company name: Nihonkai Warehouse Co., Ltd.). This brings in general and temperature-controlled warehouses in the Niigata Nishiko port area, enhancing cargo storage capacity, while incorporating the subsidiary's warehousing expertise into the group to improve customer satisfaction and maximize corporate value. The acquisition price, goodwill, and assets/liabilities to be assumed have not yet been finalized.
The effects of the guest room renovations on the mid-to-high floors, completed in April 2025, have begun to contribute in full, and in FY2026 (ending March 2026), Hotel Business Segment sales reached ¥2,453 million (up 5.2% year on year) with segment profit of ¥143 million (up 20.8% year on year). For FY2027 (ending March 2027), the company expects to capture demand from an increase in events in Niigata City and anticipates continued revenue growth.
In the Real Estate Segment, the company has promoted an increase in leasing contracts and the sale of inventory land, achieving a segment profit margin of 53.7% in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Based on the medium-term management plan's key priority of "leveraging the strengths of owned assets and human resources to improve profitability and efficiency," the company will continue to review low-profitability assets and pursue high-profitability utilization.
