Business Details
Handles semiconductor and liquid crystal materials, machinery and equipment, dyes and pigments for copiers/printers, and materials for the electronics industry as core products. In addition to domestic direct sales, the company sells globally through overseas subsidiaries and affiliates in Shanghai, Taiwan, Singapore, the U.S., Europe, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Korea, and other regions. It handles a diverse range of product groups including FPD-related, semiconductor-related, inkjet-related, and solar cell & secondary battery-related products, positioning the expansion of AI and semiconductor demand as a growth driver.
Recent Overview
Both sales and profit declined by double digits due to the disappearance of large-scale equipment sales and the decrease in solar-related sales
In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Information & Electronics Business recorded net sales of ¥239,336 million (down 9.4% year on year) and segment profit of ¥7,042 million (down 16.9% year on year). The main causes were the disappearance of large-scale equipment sales that existed in the prior period and the decline in sales of solar power generation-related materials. FPD became somewhat sluggish from the third quarter onward, with sales of materials for large panels declining. On the other hand, against the backdrop of the buoyant AI-related market, sales of materials for advanced semiconductors increased substantially, and demand for semiconductor materials in general destined for China also expanded. Sales for industrial inkjet applications also continued to increase.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Expanding demand for advanced semiconductor materials against the backdrop of the buoyant AI-related market
- Increased demand for semiconductor materials in general destined for China
- Firm demand for materials for automotive and OLED (organic EL) panel applications
- Increased sales due to continued market growth in industrial inkjet-related materials
- Increased sales of photomask-related materials (for semiconductor and FPD applications)
- Acceleration of initiatives toward North America and India in solar power generation-related business
Risks
- Sluggish global demand for secondary battery-related materials due to the continued slowdown in EV sales and the end of U.S. subsidies
- Intensifying price competition due to the circulation of low-cost products in solar power generation-related business
- Demand adjustment for large FPD panel materials (decline in utilization rate from the third quarter onward)
- Rebound decline from large-scale equipment sales in the prior period (structural fluctuation in sales due to a temporary factor)
- Risk of production issues at customers in home & office inkjet-related business
- Uncertainty regarding the outlook due to trends in the Middle East situation and U.S. trade policy
