Business Details

This business centers on the manufacturing and sale of ceiling materials, storage materials, plywood, and lumber products, with domestic operations focused primarily on closet system storage for newly built houses. Major customers are SMB Kenzai Corporation (22.3% of net sales) and Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd. (15.7% of net sales). Overseas, Indonesian subsidiary PT. NANKAI INDONESIA manufactures laminated lumber and LVL, while French subsidiary NP ROLPIN and the Joubert group operate in the European plywood market. This is the foundational business of the Group, operating an integrated domestic and overseas manufacturing and sales structure.

Recent Overview

Net sales and profit increased significantly due to the acquisition of Joubert and expansion of the European plywood business

On October 1, 2025, the company acquired shares of ETABLISSEMENTS GUY JOUBERT, a major French plywood manufacturer, achieving a full-scale entry into the European plywood market. On the same date, PT. NANKAI INDONESIA's new Jumberl plant (third plant) commenced operations, beginning production of new products such as LVL. As a result of these initiatives, net sales to Europe expanded to ¥5,272,065 thousand (prior fiscal year: ¥2,129,439 thousand). Domestically, sales for reform and renovation grew significantly, and showroom visitor numbers reached a record high. As a result, the segment achieved net sales of ¥26,442 million (up 18.8% year on year) and segment profit of ¥2,103 million (up 146.9% year on year).

Growth Drivers

  • Aggressive expansion of sales channels into the reform and renovation market and substantial sales growth
  • Expansion of the storage product lineup (addition of new colors, launch of new products) and sales promotion utilizing social media and showrooms
  • Expansion of share in the European plywood market through consolidation of the Joubert group

Risks

  • Rising raw material procurement costs due to the weak yen
  • Impact of deteriorating European economic conditions on the performance of Joubert and NP ROLPIN (improvement effects expected to take a certain period of time to materialize)
  • Rising housing prices and declining home purchase sentiment due to increases in building material prices, transportation costs, and labor costs
