Business Details
This segment procures Electronic Equipment and Components (Embedded Systems, Imaging-related Equipment & Components, Information Systems, Green Facility, etc.) and Manufacturing Equipment (Electronic Components, Semiconductor & Substrate Material Equipment, Opto-device & Substrate Material Equipment, etc.) from domestic and overseas suppliers, and sells them mainly to domestic customers and group subsidiaries. It is the largest segment, accounting for approximately 78% of the Group's consolidated net sales, with demand related to generative AI-driven semiconductors and data centers serving as its main growth engine.
Recent Overview
Tailwinds from generative AI and data center demand drove Q1 net sales up 36.1% year on year, with operating income surging 73.4%
In the first quarter of FY2026 (ending December 2026) (January to March 2026), net sales to external customers reached ¥23,721 million (up 36.1% year on year), and segment profit (operating income) reached ¥2,034 million (up 73.4% year on year). Within Electronic Equipment and Components, sales increased for industrial network boards, automotive cameras and lenses, communication systems, and UPS systems for data centers. Within Manufacturing Equipment, sales increased for equipment used in semiconductor material production and for equipment used in data center communication device production. Expanding capital investment in advanced semiconductors, driven by the rapid spread of generative AI, has been the main driver of demand.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Expanding demand for Electronic Components, Semiconductor & Substrate Material Equipment driven by investment in advanced semiconductor production capacity amid the spread of generative AI
- Increased sales of Opto-device & Substrate Material Equipment for data center communication device production
- Expanding demand for UPS systems for data centers (Green Facility)
- Expanding demand for automotive imaging-related equipment and components (cameras and lenses)
- Increased sales of industrial network boards (Embedded Systems) and communication systems for web conferencing
- Expansion of original product sales and creation of new businesses under the 11th Medium-Term Management Plan (2024–2026)
Risks
- Demand fluctuations due to changes in US trade policy or geopolitical risks (Ukraine, Middle East situation)
- Risk of rising procurement costs due to elevated raw material and resource prices remaining high
- Risk of fluctuating electronic component demand due to a recurrence of inventory adjustment phases
- Risk of a sharp decline in demand for manufacturing equipment and electronic components due to a deterioration in the semiconductor market
- Risk of indirect demand decline due to the slump in the Chinese real estate market and insufficient domestic demand
