Business Details

Engages in the design, manufacture, and construction of city gas & petroleum-related plants, various chemical industry plants, hydrogen production equipment, sewage treatment equipment, industrial wastewater treatment equipment, various water treatment equipment, and other facilities. Primary customers are private-sector plant and equipment purchasers and public-sector sewage treatment equipment purchasers, with domestic capital expenditure demand as the main revenue source. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), this segment accounted for approximately 54% of consolidated net sales of ¥84,240 million. Affiliated companies participating include Mitsubishi Kakoki Advance Co., Ltd., MKK Tohoku Co., Ltd., and MKK Asia Co., Ltd.

Recent Overview

Both net sales and operating income increased substantially, driven by steady execution of the order backlog

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Engineering segment achieved net sales of ¥45,747 million (up 25.2% year on year) and operating income of ¥3,124 million (up 92.8% year on year), representing substantial increases in both revenue and profit. The main driver was progress in recognizing sales from the order backlog accumulated through the prior period. Segment assets also expanded to ¥36,148 million. Note that, due to a change in reportable segment classification effective this period, the GX Business has been separated out as an independent segment, and figures for the GX Business are excluded from the prior-year comparison. An impairment loss of ¥106 million was recorded in connection with the restructuring plan for the head office and Kawasaki Plant.

Key Products

product
City Gas & Petroleum-Related Plants

Primarily plants for energy infrastructure, with domestic private-sector capital expenditure demand as the main revenue source. Order intake and construction of large-scale projects are factors driving fluctuations in net sales.

product
Hydrogen Production Equipment

A product group capturing demand for building a hydrogen supply chain toward achieving carbon neutrality. Aims to expand demand while also coordinating with the GX Business.

product
Sewage Treatment & Water Treatment Equipment

Secures stable orders backed by public-sector infrastructure development demand. Competition for large-scale project orders is intensifying alongside the increase in PPP/PFI procurement schemes.

product
Chemical Industry Plants

Provides a wide variety of plant facilities in response to capital expenditure demand from chemical manufacturers. Performance is linked to trends in private-sector capital expenditure.

product
Biogas-Related Equipment

A field expected to see demand expansion against the backdrop of accelerating decarbonization policy. Positioned at the boundary with the GX Business, with efforts underway to create new projects.

Growth Drivers

  • Progress in sales recognition from large-scale orders (private-sector plants and public-sector sewage treatment equipment) received through the prior period
  • Continued securing of new orders backed by steady trends in domestic private-sector capital expenditure
  • Strengthening of the business foundation in the Tohoku region through the consolidation of MKK Tohoku Co., Ltd. as a subsidiary
  • Expanding demand for hydrogen production equipment and biogas-related equipment amid accelerating decarbonization and GX policy
  • Strengthened efforts to secure orders and steadily execute the order backlog based on the medium-term management plan (FY2025–FY2027)

Risks

  • Risk of a slowdown in future sales due to the drop-off of large-scale orders (replenishing orders after working through the existing backlog is a challenge)
  • Risk of deteriorating profitability due to persistently high material and supply costs and rising plant costs
  • Risk of recording additional impairment losses in connection with the restructuring plan for the head office and Kawasaki Plant (an impairment loss of ¥506 million was recorded in the current period)
  • Intensifying competition for large-scale project orders and increasing complexity of profitability management alongside the growth of PPP/PFI procurement schemes
  • Risk that the hydrogen market remains in an early stage of development, requiring time to recoup GX-related investments
  • Concern regarding the impact on the Engineering segment given the consolidated earnings forecast for FY2027 (ending March 2027) of net sales of ¥80,000 million (down 5.0% year on year), indicating an expected decline in revenue
