Business

Yamabiko Corporation is a comprehensive manufacturer of outdoor power equipment, established in 2008 through the business integration of Kioritz Corporation and Shindaiwa Corporation. The company operates three business segments: Small Outdoor Power Equipment such as Brush Cutters & Chainsaws and Power Blowers (approximately 75.8% of net sales), Agricultural Management Machinery such as Mowers and Pest Control Machines (approximately 13.9%), and General Industrial Machinery such as Generators and Welding Machines (approximately 9.0%). Its main markets are North America, Europe, and Japan, and it forms a global group comprising 14 consolidated subsidiaries and 2 affiliated companies. In FY2025 (ending December 2025), net sales reached ¥174,020 million, and operating profit reached ¥19,722 million (a record high).

Business Model

By handling in-house production of small engines—the core component—from casting and machining through assembly and inspection, the company achieves an efficient and flexible production system. Domestically, sales are conducted directly through Yamabiko Japan Co., Ltd., while overseas, the company operates through local sales networks such as ECHO INCORPORATED in the U.S. and Yamabiko Europe S.A. in Europe. Sales to THE HOME DEPOT INCORPORATED reached ¥40,722 million (23.4% of total net sales), with transactions with major home improvement retailers underpinning the earnings base.

Company Strengths

By handling everything in-house from material formulation research to development and manufacturing of small engines, the company simultaneously achieves weight reduction, higher output, and compliance with emissions regulations in countries worldwide. This technological foundation is also applied to electric product development, enabling the market launch of Electric OPE Products with high output and advanced control technology.

In FY2025 (ending December 2025), the company achieved net sales of ¥174,020 million (102% of target), an operating margin of 11.3% (significantly exceeding the 7.0% target), and ROE of 12.7% (exceeding the 10.0% target), meeting all indicators set out in the Medium-Term Management Plan 2025. Price pass-through and expanded sales of high-value-added products significantly boosted profitability.

Sales to THE HOME DEPOT INCORPORATED, the largest home improvement retailer in the United States, reached ¥40,722 million (23.4% of total net sales), up from ¥36,906 million (22.4%) in the previous period. This serves as a stable sales foundation in the North American OPE market.

ENVALITH's Perspective

In Q1 of FY2026 (ending December 2026), net sales were ¥49,351 million (up 12.7% year-on-year), operating income was ¥6,500 million (up 16.6%), ordinary income was ¥6,622 million (up 33.9%), and quarterly net income attributable to owners of the parent was ¥4,495 million (up 46.8%), representing substantial increases across all indicators. The main factor behind ordinary income's growth rate of 33.9%—significantly exceeding the operating income growth rate of 16.6%—was the shift from a foreign exchange loss of ¥551 million recorded in the same period last year to a foreign exchange gain of ¥195 million this period. Externally, the weak yen trend against the US dollar has been a tailwind, and continued close attention is warranted regarding fluctuations in foreign exchange assumptions as a factor affecting future performance.

The full-year earnings forecast for FY2026 (ending December 2026) remains unrevised, with net sales of ¥185,000 million (up 6.3% year-on-year), operating income of ¥21,000 million (up 6.5%), ordinary income of ¥20,000 million (up 2.4%), and net income of ¥15,000 million (up 3.8%). The Q1 progress rate against the full-year sales forecast was 26.7%, and 30.9% for operating income, which is considered on track even factoring in seasonality. On the other hand, risks remain in the second half, including uncertainty over US tariff policy and crude oil price surges and logistics disruptions stemming from the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The company has stated that it will promptly disclose any expected impact on performance.

In the US, declining grain prices and rising production costs have dampened farmers' capital investment appetite for agricultural management machinery, and overseas Agricultural Management Machinery sales continued to decline sharply, down 25.9% year-on-year to ¥1,115 million. Additionally, cash flow from operating activities worsened to an outflow of ¥9,944 million (compared to an outflow of ¥6,571 million in the same period last year), primarily due to an increase in trade receivables (¥11,810 million). While this is largely attributable to seasonal factors such as inventory buildup and increased accounts receivable ahead of the spring demand season, the net increase in short-term borrowings of ¥11,369 million, bringing the balance to ¥16,666 million, warrants continued close attention from a liquidity management perspective.

Growth Strategy

Aiming for net sales of ¥210,000 million, an operating margin of 13%, and ROE of 14% under the Mid-Term Management Plan 2028

Continuing to strengthen sales of Self-Propelled Lawn Mowers, Chainsaws, and other products to home centers in the North American market. Net sales in the Americas for the first quarter of FY2026 (ending March 2026) came to ¥32,722 million (up 16.4% year on year), a strong performance, with progress in capturing demand during the spring peak season proceeding smoothly.

The effects of the collaboration with The Toro Company announced in 2025 are contributing to Robotic Lawn Mowers sales in the European market. Net sales in Europe for the first quarter of FY2026 (ending March 2026) came to ¥5,035 million (up 22.6% from ¥4,104 million in the same period of the previous year), with the effects of the collaboration beginning to show in the figures.

The U.S. Light Towers business acquired at the beginning of 2026 is launching smoothly, and the company is promoting combined sales with its core Generators business. Overseas net sales of General Industrial Machinery came to ¥1,739 million (up 33.8% year on year), a significant increase. This is being nurtured as a new profit pillar to capture North American infrastructure demand.

Under the Mid-Term Management Plan 2028, expanding the next-generation product lineup, including Electric OPE Products and Robotic Lawn Mowers, is positioned as a key initiative. Leveraging tightening environmental regulations in Europe as a tailwind, the company is advancing the development and launch of Electric OPE Products. A new initiative in the EMS (Energy Management System) field has also been launched.

Leveraging the strong purchasing appetite of farmers amid rising rice prices, the company is expanding sales of Pest Control Machines and other paddy field management equipment. Domestic net sales of Agricultural Management Machinery for the first quarter of FY2026 (ending March 2026) came to ¥4,467 million (up 9.3% year on year), a strong performance. The company continues to maintain and strengthen its sales foundation through the agricultural machinery commercial cooperative network.
