Business
Globee Inc. is a single-business company that has operated the AI English learning platform "abceed" since 2016, under the corporate philosophy of "maximizing individual potential." The company provides over 1,200 educational content titles via smartphone and web, building a platform that digitally integrates the four core areas of education: "learning tools," "teaching materials," "tests," and "schools." Its main customers are general individual users (approximately 90% of sales) and corporate clients (companies, universities, and schools). The company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market in June 2023. The cumulative number of users reached 5,584,000 as of the end of May 2025.
Business Model
The core of revenue is monthly subscriptions centered on the abceed (Pro Plan) (accounting for over 95% of revenue in each quarter). The structure expands revenue along two axes—number of paying members and average unit price—and in March 2024 the company raised the Pro Plan price by approximately 20%, achieving an increase in unit price. Billing to general individual users is collected via platforms such as Apple and Google. For corporate clients, the company also collects a monthly usage fee for the management dashboard abceed for school (management dashboard for corporate clients). An organic user acquisition rate of approximately 94% enables highly efficient customer acquisition while holding down advertising costs.
Company Strengths
Since its early founding days, the company built relationships with publishers to secure licenses for popular teaching materials totaling over 1,200 titles (as of end-May 2025). By offering an extensive lineup of bestselling materials familiar to learners, it has achieved an organic user acquisition rate of approximately 94%, keeping advertising costs low. While competitors incur substantial marketing costs, this low-cost customer acquisition supports profitability.
The company has accumulated over 2.4 billion answer data points (as of end-May 2025), providing AI-recommended personalized optimized learning and real-time score prediction. The cumulative number of online mock exam takers has reached 2.9 million, and the accumulation of performance data contributes to improving AI accuracy. By specializing in English, the company has deepened over 30 learning features, ensuring a level of usability that is difficult to achieve with multi-subject services.
In each quarter of FY2025 (ended May 2025), the subscription revenue ratio remained above 95%. The number of paying members grew approximately tenfold, from 12 thousand at the end of FY2020 (ended May 2020) to 117 thousand at the end of FY2025 (ended May 2025). Even after a roughly 20% price increase in March 2024, net growth in paying members continued, and revenue achieved growth exceeding 25% for three consecutive fiscal years, rising from ¥948 million in FY2023 to ¥1,638 million in FY2025.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Revenue maintained roughly 25% growth for four consecutive periods, rising from ¥948 million in FY2023 (ended May 2023) to ¥1,289 million in FY2024 (ended May 2024), ¥1,638 million in FY2025 (ended May 2025), and ¥2,045 million in FY2026 (ended May 2026). Meanwhile, operating profit in FY2026 (ended May 2026) reached only ¥442 million (+7.5% YoY), significantly underperforming the revenue growth rate (+24.9%). The main cause was a sharp increase in SG&A expenses to ¥553 million (+49.4% YoY), which pushed the operating margin down from 25.1% to 21.6%. An increase in software depreciation expenses (¥113 million, +42% YoY) also pushed up costs. Operating cash flow improved substantially to ¥658 million from ¥387 million in the prior period, and the company's cash-generating capacity remains at a high level, supported by the buildup of contract liabilities.
Growth Strategy
Four-pronged growth approach: expanding paid subscriber numbers, diversifying content, developing corporate clients, and strengthening AI features
Build up paid subscriber numbers centered on half-price Pro Plan campaigns conducted in Q2, Q3, and Q4. Achieved 150 thousand subscribers at the end of FY2026 (ending March 2026) (117 thousand at the end of the previous fiscal year). Also aims to capture new user segments through the addition of low-priced "Movie Plan" and "English Conversation Plan" options.
The number of available titles expanded to 1,426 (up from 1,230 at the end of the previous fiscal year) through the addition of Dandadan (Mainichi Broadcasting System), Chibi Maruko-chan (Nippon Animation), Gaga-distributed films, and the launch of free TED Talks streaming. This aims to acquire new user segments and improve engagement among existing members.
Sequential rollout of AI annotation, explanation, and question features (released June 2025), a streak-freeze feature (October 2025), AI English composition correction, read-aloud scoring, speaking correction, AI English conversation, and more. Aims to improve retention rates and differentiate the service through enhanced usability.
The cumulative number of corporate clients increased to 690 (up from 553 at the end of the previous fiscal year) through expansion of sales personnel and strengthening of the sales structure. A multi-faceted new feature plan utilizing AI has been introduced for schools, driving medium- to long-term customer development. The number of corporate clients using the service during the period also expanded from 315 to 385.
