Business Details
Plans and produces theatrical anime and TV anime, and develops broadcasting rights sales domestically and overseas, package software rights sales (Blu-ray, DVD, etc.), and video streaming services for internet and mobile devices. Through the Toei Group's sales network and overseas subsidiaries, the business generates revenue domestically and internationally centered on flagship IPs such as "One Piece," "Dragon Ball," and "Precure." It consists of the Theatrical Anime, TV Anime, Content, Overseas Video, and Other divisions.
Recent Overview
Revenue and profit both declined by double digits due to the reversal effect from strong prior-year titles
In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Visual Production & Sales Business recorded revenue of ¥31,151 million (down 16.5% year-on-year) and segment profit of ¥8,751 million (down 15.7% year-on-year), representing a decline in both revenue and profit. Year-on-year comparisons were difficult across all divisions—Theatrical Anime, TV Anime, Content, Overseas Video, and Other—with the reversal effects from overseas streaming rights for the "Dragon Ball" series and domestic video streaming rights sales being major factors behind the significant revenue decline. On the other hand, overseas streaming rights for "One Piece" and package sales for "Girls Band Cry" performed well. The profit margin improved slightly to 28.1% from the prior period.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Continued strong performance of overseas streaming rights sales for "One Piece" contributing to Overseas Video division revenue
- Revenue diversification through strong package software sales of new IPs such as "Girls Band Cry"
- Sales expansion through new visual productions of flagship IPs such as the new TV anime "Dragon Ball Super: Bills" toward FY2027 (ending March 2027)
- Recovery of theatrical revenue through theatrical anime releases such as "Meitantei Precure! The Movie" (planned for September 2026) and "Rakuen Tsuiho: Resonance of the Heart" (planned for November 2026)
- Maintaining profit margins through the high profitability of video streaming rights sales (domestic and overseas)
Risks
- Risk of revenue concentration in specific IPs (high dependence on revenue and profit from "Dragon Ball" and "One Piece")
- Risk of reversal effects from strong prior-year titles (one-time revenue from films such as "GeGeGe no Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe" and "THE FIRST SLAM DUNK" fell off, becoming apparent in FY2026, ending March 2026)
- Risk from fluctuations in the number of broadcast titles and episodes (revenue in the TV Anime division is directly linked to increases/decreases in broadcast titles and episodes)
- Foreign exchange risk (revenue in the Overseas Video division is affected by exchange rate fluctuations)
- Upfront investment risk in anime production (large sums of capital are invested at the production stage, and recoupment periods vary significantly by title)
