Business Details

This segment handles synthetic rubber, synthetic resin, thermoplastic elastomers, rubber specialty chemicals, and chemical products (resins and additives for paints, inks, and plastics) as core products, and operates globally through domestic customers and overseas group companies (in the U.S., China, Southeast Asia, India, etc.). It consists of two pillars—rubber-related and chemical-related—with earnings driven by both the capture of domestic raw material demand and the performance of overseas subsidiaries.

Recent Overview

Both rubber-related and chemical-related products saw higher revenue and profit; H1 operating profit up 7.8% year-on-year

In the first half of FY2026 (ending September 2026) (October 2025 to March 2026), rubber-related products saw both revenue and profit increase, driven by strong capture of domestic raw material demand in anticipation of supply tightness due to the Middle East conflict, along with successful selling price revisions. Chemical-related products saw profit increase due to the effects of new business launches and selling price revisions, despite continued weak demand for core domestic products. Although demand declined at some overseas group companies, the segment as a whole achieved revenue of ¥22,060 million (up 1.5% year-on-year) and operating profit of ¥1,494 million (up 7.8% year-on-year).

Growth Drivers

  • Steady trend in domestic demand for rubber raw materials (demand supported by concerns over supply tightness due to the Middle East conflict, etc.)
  • Profit improvement effect in rubber-related and chemical-related products from selling price revisions
  • Revenue contribution from chemical-related products through the launch of new business
  • Performance growth at overseas group companies (Asia, U.S., etc.)
  • Promotion of expanded sales of core products in existing businesses based on the long-term management plan "SANYO VISION 2028"
  • Establishment of a new sales foundation in the electronic materials market through the establishment of a Korea branch

Risks

  • Continued weak demand for core domestic chemical products
  • Risk of poor performance at some overseas group companies (China's economic slowdown, intensifying competition)
  • Impact on earnings from exchange rate fluctuations
  • Risk of sharp fluctuations in raw material prices and logistics costs
  • Impact on export business from uncertainty in U.S. trade and tariff policy
