Business
Aoba-BBT Corporation is an EdTech company founded in 1998, with a mission of "developing leaders who can succeed on the global stage." Its business is broadly structured around two pillars. In the Platform Services business, the company operates the only international school group in Japan holding dual international accreditations from the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) continuously from kindergarten through high school, with 11 campuses in Tokyo serving over 1,500 students. In the Recurrent Education business, leveraging over 19,000 hours of cumulative educational content and its proprietary online learning system "AirCampus®," the company provides MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)-accredited online MBA and university programs, next-generation management talent development training for corporations, IT management training, and language education. Its main customers span multiple layers, including families seeking international education, HR and talent development departments at major corporations, and business professionals pursuing reskilling.
Business Model
The platform services business is centered on tuition revenue linked to student numbers, giving it a stock-type revenue structure in which growth in student numbers directly expands fixed income. The recurrent education business generates revenue from corporate customized training, MBA tuition, short-term intensive certificate programs, and continuing learning services for graduates, by integrating in-house-produced content with AirCampus®. By handling content, systems, and operations in-house, the company achieves high flexibility, enabling program customization to meet client needs with minimal additional investment.
Company Strengths
Our group is the only one in Japan that maintains both IB and CAIE accreditations continuously from kindergarten through high school. The flagship school, Aoba-Japan International School, recorded an all-time high enrollment of 797 students in September 2025, and has been selected as the first accredited school in the Asia-Pacific region for the IB-DP online pilot program.
Over the 26 years since its founding, the company has produced and accumulated more than 19,000 hours of educational content in its own studios, operating this in tandem with its proprietary online learning system, AirCampus®. By internalizing content production, system development, and operations, the company has built a differentiated business model capable of rapid customization to customer needs with minimal incremental investment.
New enrollments at the Business Breakthrough University Graduate School (MBA) surged to 177% year on year (122 students) in FY2025. In August 2025, the BOND-BBT MBA program was approved as eligible for the Specialized Practical Education and Training Benefit, and enrollment is expected to increase further as tuition subsidies become available. To mark the 20th anniversary of its founding, the school is also working to enhance its brand value by revitalizing its alumni network.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Consolidated net sales for FY2026 (ending March 2026) came to ¥7,668 million (down 0.4% year on year), a slight decline, while operating profit rose to ¥455 million (up 3.3% year on year) and profit attributable to owners of parent increased to ¥274 million (up 13.1% year on year), securing profit growth. The disappearance of the ¥55 million impairment loss recorded in the prior period boosted net profit. Over the five-period trend, net sales maintained a gradual expansion trajectory, rising from ¥6,757 million in FY2022 to ¥7,668 million in FY2026. Operating profit bottomed out at ¥329 million in FY2023 and has since recovered, improving to ¥455 million in FY2026. The Platform Services business posted record-high net sales and operating profit, while the Recurrent Education business saw declining sales and profit due to the completion of large-scale projects and a decrease in undergraduate enrollment. Operating cash flow came to ¥526 million, a significant decrease from ¥1,097 million in the prior period, mainly due to an increase in corporate tax payments (a shift from a refund in the prior period to a payment of ¥242 million in the current period). Cash and cash equivalents remained ample at ¥3,012 million, maintaining abundant liquidity on hand.
Growth Strategy
Centered on a shift toward profitability-focused management, the company aims to improve profit margins through three pillars: expansion of the International School, growth of the MBA business, and utilization of AI.
As the Tokyo campus approaches capacity, a large-scale campus expansion is under consideration. Building on the comprehensive partnership model with Hokuriku Gakuin (kindergarten division at the Kanazawa Campus currently in preparation for opening), the company is actively promoting regional expansion to educational institutions in Kyushu, Kanto, and other regions. The IB-DP online pilot program is currently accepting applications for its second cohort.
Enrollment in the BBT Graduate School MBA program increased significantly, up 177% year on year (122 students). The BOND-BBT MBA has seen a rising enrollment trend following approval for the Specialized Practical Education and Training Benefit (educational training subsidy) in August 2025. The company has launched LEN, connecting alumni of BBT University, BBT Graduate School, BOND-BBT, and AJIS, aiming to enhance brand value and expand recurring revenue through a lifelong learning network.
The cumulative number of participants in the "Practical Generative AI Utilization Camp" is expected to reach 500, and the new "AI for Business" course has gained strong support. The company is promoting labor productivity improvements through the use of generative AI in back-office and middle-office functions, aiming for a substantial improvement in operating profit margin (from 5.9% in the current period to a projected 7.9% in FY2027) over the three years starting in FY2026.
The next-generation management talent development training program is expected to see substantial revenue growth in the next period following the end of an implementation-cycle lull among major clients. The company is capturing growing demand for executive training linked to succession planning (targeting executive officers and board-level positions) and for the new "AI × Management Skills" program, while boldly shifting management resources from less profitable business areas to more profitable ones.
