Business

Eiwa Corporation is an independent trading company founded in 1947 that sells industrial measurement and control equipment, environmental measurement and analysis instruments, testing and inspection equipment, and industrial machinery to domestic and overseas industries. Its main customers are heavy industries such as chemicals, steel, shipbuilding, construction plants, and social infrastructure, and it conducts both direct sales to end users and wholesale distribution through a nationwide network of sales offices. The company has four consolidated subsidiaries (Futaba Tec, Tobu Kiki, and local subsidiaries in Shanghai and Taiwan), which supplement its manufacturing, engineering, and overseas sales functions. Eiwa is listed on the Standard Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Business Model

The core business model is a trading company (shosha) model that purchases measurement/control equipment and industrial machinery from manufacturers and sells them to industrial customers. Beyond simple product sales (mono-uri, or 'selling things'), the company aims to improve gross margins through high-value-added proposals combining digital solutions such as equipment visualization, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance—an approach known as koto-uri, or 'selling experiences/solutions'. Continuous customer relationships, cultivated through regular maintenance and replacement proposals at times of equipment renewal, support revenue stability.

Company Strengths

As an independent trading company not tied to specific manufacturers, the company can combine products from multiple manufacturers for cross-selling and discover new products. Leveraging its nationwide network of sales offices, it conducts field-oriented proposal-based sales to diverse industry customers including chemicals, steel, shipbuilding, and social infrastructure.

Net sales expanded for five consecutive fiscal years, from ¥37,378 million in FY2022 to ¥48,846 million in FY2026, while operating profit nearly doubled over the same period, rising from ¥1,562 million to ¥2,975 million. At the end of FY2026, the equity ratio stood at 57.9% and net assets reached ¥18,990 million, maintaining a high level of financial soundness.

As a result of prioritizing solution proposals (selling of experiences/services) utilizing digital technology, such as equipment visualization, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance, gross profit in FY2026 rose 6.3% year on year to ¥8,699 million, achieving profit growth that exceeded the rate of sales growth (3.6%).

ENVALITH's Perspective

The consolidated financial forecast for FY2027 (ending March 2027) anticipates net sales of ¥48,500 million (down 0.7% year-on-year) and operating profit of ¥2,660 million (down 10.6% year-on-year), reflecting a decline in both revenue and profit. The main causes are increased personnel expenses associated with the introduction of a new HR system and investment in enhancing training programs, which the company positions as "upfront investment aimed at strengthening the foundation for medium- to long-term growth." Supply chain uncertainty stemming from geopolitical risk is also a downward pressure factor. This represents a temporary decline in profit levels, with the focus being on returning to a growth trajectory through productivity improvements.

Cash flow from operating activities for FY2026 (ended March 2026) was ¥-199 million, a significant deterioration from ¥725 million in the previous period. The main cause is a change in the payment terms of accounts payable, specifically a decrease in electronically recorded obligations (¥-2,482 million), rather than any impairment of the business's earning power. However, the fact that negative operating cash flow made the cash flow-to-interest-bearing debt ratio and interest coverage ratio incalculable is a point that warrants confirmation of the recovery status in the following period.

In FY2026 (ended March 2026), high utilization rates in the shipbuilding industry (an external factor) drove increased demand for various sensors and valves, and the company captured demand for periodic maintenance in the chemical and steel industries, both of which contributed to revenue growth. On the other hand, sales of specialty vehicles declined due to delayed shipments of truck chassis (an external factor). Sales to the machinery manufacturing and electrical equipment industries also declined. Given the structure in which capital expenditure trends and utilization rate levels in key customer industries significantly affect performance, continuously monitoring changes in the supply-demand environment of each industry is an important point for investment decisions.

Growth Strategy

Focus on the three fields of DX, GX, and social infrastructure development, along with productivity improvement through human capital management and DX investment

Strengthening high-value-added solution proposals such as equipment visualization, remote monitoring, regular maintenance, and replacement proposals for existing customers in chemicals, steel, shipbuilding, and other industries. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), gross profit margin was 17.8% (up from 17.4% in the previous period), and profitability improvement has continued, confirming the effectiveness of the strategy.

Promoting a sales strategy that leverages the nationwide branch network, focusing on three growth themes: digital transformation (equipment visualization, remote monitoring), green transformation (energy conservation, environmental measurement), and social infrastructure development (disaster prevention/mitigation, infrastructure maintenance management). Environmental measurement and analysis equipment achieved high growth of 14.2% year-on-year in FY2026 (ending March 2026).

A new personnel system will be introduced in FY2027 (ending March 2027), including enhancement of educational systems aimed at human resource development. While this will put pressure on profits in the short term due to increased personnel expenses, it is positioned as an advance investment aimed at improving productivity and strengthening the organizational foundation over the medium to long term. The operating profit forecast for FY2027 (ending March 2027) is ¥2,660 million (down 10.6% year-on-year).
