Recent Overview

Revenue rose 3.9% year on year, but operating income fell 7.7% due to higher costs

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Integrated ICT Business achieved operating revenue of ¥6,458,073 million (up 3.9% year on year), while operating expenses increased 6.2% year on year, leaving operating income at ¥942,062 million (down 7.7% year on year). Growth in the Smart Life Business and aggressive investment in 5G base stations were the main drivers of the cost increase.

Growth Drivers

  • Expansion of the Smart Life Business (finance, payments, marketing solutions): launch of "d NEOBANK" following the consolidation of SBI Sumishin Net Bank as a subsidiary, and transition to the "NTT DOCOMO Financial Group" structure
  • Improved communication quality and sustained/expanded customer base through aggressive rollout of 5G base stations: new rate plans such as "docomo MAX" surpassed 3 million subscriptions by March 2026
  • Expansion of the enterprise customer base through the rollout of the enterprise NaaS "docomo business RINK®" and strengthened partner collaboration
  • Monetization of the entertainment domain through use of IOWN and Wi-Fi 7 at venue businesses (MUFG Stadium, IG Arena, etc.)
  • Advancing the societal implementation of AI solutions leveraging LLMs (such as robotic automatic control cloud services)

Risks

  • Impact on operating cash flow and rising financial leverage from an increase in bank lending etc. associated with the consolidation of SBI Sumishin Net Bank as a subsidiary
  • Decline in operating margin (from 16.4% in the prior period to 14.6% in the current period) due to ballooning operating expenses (up 6.2% year on year) from 5G base station investment and financial business expansion
  • Continued downward pressure on mobile ARPU from the ongoing spread of low-priced rate plans (such as irumo)
  • Continuing structural decline in fixed-line voice-related service revenue
  • Increase in revenue-linked costs and regulatory risk associated with expansion of the Smart Life Business (finance and payments)
