Business
NTT Corporation (formerly Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, renamed in July 2025) is Japan's largest telecommunications group holding company, with 1,026 subsidiaries and 161 affiliated companies. The company operates three core segments: the Integrated ICT Business (mobile, smart life, enterprise), centered on NTT Docomo; the Global Solutions Business (system integration, cloud, data centers), centered on NTT DATA Group; and the Regional Communications Business (fiber-optic lines, fixed-line telephone) handled by NTT East and NTT West. In addition, the company operates diversified businesses including real estate and energy. Its customer base spans domestic corporations and consumers to overseas global enterprises, and consolidated operating revenue for FY2026 (ending March 2026) is expected to reach ¥14,409,121 million.
Business Model
The company secures stable cash flow through monthly subscription-based consumer communication services (mobile and fixed-line broadband) while accumulating high-value-added earnings from Enterprise ICT Solutions & NaaS, Cloud & Security Services, and the Smart Life Business (finance, payments, etc.), as well as the Global Data Center business. Capital expenditure of approximately ¥2,326,004 million annually is directed toward developing telecom infrastructure and data centers, employing a structure that leverages third-party capital such as REITs to enhance investment efficiency.
Company Strengths
As of the end of March 2026, NTT DOCOMO's Mobile Phone Service (5G/LTE) subscriptions totaled 93,065 thousand (up 1.8% year on year), of which 5G service subscriptions were 43,893 thousand (up 17.6% year on year). With a mobile phone market share of 39.9%, the company holds the largest customer base in Japan, and mobile communication ARPU also showed a slight upward trend at ¥3,960 (up 0.5% year on year). This customer base also functions as a platform for expanding the Smart Life Business and financial services business.
Through NTT DATA Group, the company holds a global data center network with total power receiving capacity of approximately 2,000MW (with plans to expand to 3,000MW by fiscal year 2030). In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Global Solutions Business posted operating profit of ¥4,882 million (up 50.7% year on year) and EBITDA of ¥8,037 million (up 29.1% year on year), showing rapid expansion, with the scale of physical infrastructure serving as a source of competitive advantage.
As of the end of March 2026, the combined number of FLET'S Hikari (including Collabo Hikari) subscriptions for NTT East and NTT West totaled 23,985 thousand (up 0.8% year on year). FLET'S Hikari ARPU showed an improving trend, at ¥4,480 (up 1.6% year on year) for NTT East and ¥4,510 (up 1.3% year on year) for NTT West. The nationwide fiber-optic infrastructure is a unique asset that is difficult to replicate in a short period of time, and it underpins the revenue base for both enterprise and consumer segments.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Operating revenue rose for five consecutive fiscal years, increasing 5.1% from ¥12,156,447 million in FY2022 (ended March 2022) to ¥14,409,121 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Operating income peaked at ¥1,922,910 million in FY2024 (ended March 2024), fell sharply to ¥1,649,571 million in FY2025 (ended March 2025), and then recovered to ¥1,706,221 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026), though this remains 11.3% below the peak. Net income for the period is on a similar recovery path, moving from ¥1,279,521 million in FY2024 (ended March 2024) to ¥1,037,032 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). As an external factor, expanding demand for data centers and DX driven by the spread of generative AI has supported revenue growth, while increased financing costs (¥240,068 million) and goodwill impairment (¥57,466 million) associated with making NTT DATA Group a wholly owned subsidiary have weighed on the profit recovery. For FY2027 (ending March 2027), the company forecasts operating revenue of ¥15,060,000 million (up 4.5%) and net income of ¥980,000 million (down 5.5%).
