Business
Kamigumi Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive logistics company founded in 1867 at the opening of Kobe Port. It comprises two segments: the Logistics Business, whose core operations include port cargo handling, container terminal operations, warehousing, automobile transportation, and international multimodal transport; and Other Businesses, which cover the Heavy Cargo & Construction Machinery Business, Real Estate Leasing Business, solar power generation, and Software Development, Design & Maintenance. The company has 33 consolidated subsidiaries and 18 affiliated companies, with business locations spanning major domestic ports as well as Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Vietnam, Singapore, and India. It handles a wide variety of cargo including feed, grain, fruits and vegetables, and containers, with shipper companies, shipping lines, and trading companies as its main customers.
Business Model
The company provides seamless services from port cargo handling through warehousing, domestic delivery, and international transportation, earning operating revenue linked to handled tonnage and inbound/outbound volumes. It differentiates itself by leveraging its own assets—logistics facilities, cargo-handling machinery, and vehicles—while actively taking on spot cargo to maximize utilization rates. Real Estate Leasing Business and Financial Business under Other Businesses supplement stable earnings, and the structure also allows gains from the sale of cross-shareholdings and real estate to boost net income.
Company Strengths
Since its founding in 1867, the company has expanded its footprint to major ports nationwide with port transportation at its core. In the Logistics Business, it achieved operating revenue of ¥261,097 million and a segment profit margin of 12.1%, with a track record of handling 261,247 thousand tons of diverse cargo including feed, grain, fruits and vegetables, and containers. Its extensive proprietary assets—logistics facilities, cargo-handling machinery, vehicles, and more—make it difficult for competitors to imitate.
As of the end of FY2026 (ending March 2026), the equity ratio stood at 73.5% and total net assets reached ¥397,859 million, reflecting high financial soundness. Cash flow from operating activities secured net income of ¥35,717 million, and the company funded capital expenditures of ¥14,852 million from its own resources while maintaining the financial capacity to execute proactive M&A investments.
In February 2026, the company made Nippon Port Consolidated Corporation a wholly owned subsidiary, strengthening its domestic foundation. In November 2025, it consolidated SAURASHTRA FREIGHT PVT.LTD., which operates container handling and NVOCC business at Mundra Port, India, as a subsidiary, expanding its network of Asian bases following Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Vietnam, and Singapore.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
From FY2022 (ended March 2022) to FY2026 (ending March 2026), operating revenue grew from ¥261,681 million to ¥294,758 million (+12.6% cumulative over 5 periods), while operating profit grew from ¥28,524 million to ¥36,544 million (+28.1% over the same period), with the pace of profit growth consistently outpacing revenue growth. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Logistics Business benefited from increased volumes in Port Transportation (feed, grain, containers), Warehousing, and Domestic Transportation, as well as expansion of International Transportation through the consolidation of SAURASHTRA FREIGHT PVT. LTD. as a subsidiary. In terms of the external environment, while import/export cargo volumes remained largely flat, this was achieved under challenging conditions marked by continued cost increases due to inflation. ROE improved to 8.0% (up from 7.0% in the previous fiscal year), achieving the final-year target of the Medium-Term Management Plan 2030 (ROE of 8.0%) ahead of schedule.
Growth Strategy
Under the Medium-Term Management Plan 2030, the company is advancing both the establishment of global operations and the reinforcement of its domestic business foundation as twin pillars of growth.
In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the company made SAURASHTRA FREIGHT PVT. LTD., which operates container cargo handling and storage business and NVOCC business at Mundra Port, India, a consolidated subsidiary. It invested ¥19,261 million in acquisition of shares of affiliated companies and ¥19,390 million in acquisition of shares of subsidiaries, expanding its global logistics network.
The company made Nippon Port Consultants Co., Ltd. a wholly owned subsidiary, strengthening its business foundation in domestic port transportation. Increased handling volumes in Port Transportation, Warehousing, and Domestic Transportation drove Logistics Business operating revenue to ¥261,097 million (up 7.4% year on year). Active acquisition of spot orders also contributed.
The company achieved ROE of 8.0% in FY2026 (ending March 2026), realizing ahead of schedule the financial targets set for the final year of Medium-Term Management Plan 2030. It continues efforts toward achieving its targets, with progress tracking as originally planned. Shareholder returns were also strengthened, with a dividend payout ratio of 65.9% and share buybacks of ¥13,000 million.
The company recorded a gain on sale of investment securities of ¥4,387 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026), promoting a reduction in cross-shareholdings. It aims to improve capital efficiency by reallocating proceeds from these sales to M&A, capital expenditure, and shareholder returns. The balance of investment securities remains high at ¥129,088 million, leaving continued room for further reduction.
