Business Details

Sells and imports/exports semiconductors (system LSIs, microcontrollers, power semiconductors, LCD driver ICs, memory, etc.) and electronic components (connectors, capacitors, LCD panels, modules, etc.) mainly to electronics manufacturers. Also provides technical support such as software development and module development. Sales account for approximately 87% of consolidated total, making this the core segment. By supplier category, the segment is organized into three groups: mechanical component manufacturers, overseas manufacturers, and other manufacturers.

Recent Overview

Sales increased but profit declined due to changes in sales mix and higher SG&A expenses, resulting in lower margins

For FY2026 (ending March 2026), full-year sales increased to ¥150,217 million (up 7.9% year on year). In addition to steady performance of products from mechanical component manufacturers and overseas manufacturers, new automotive-related business, which gained momentum in the second half of the prior fiscal year, contributed to results from the beginning of the current fiscal year. On the other hand, gross profit margin declined due to changes in the sales mix, and combined with an increase in SG&A expenses, segment profit decreased to ¥2,694 million (down 2.8% year on year). In addition, a loss of ¥267 million from wire transfer fraud at an overseas subsidiary was recorded as an extraordinary loss.

Growth Drivers

  • Overall semiconductor market growth driven by expanding demand for AI and next-generation technologies (an industry-wide trend across the electronics sector)
  • Contribution to results from new automotive-related business from the beginning of the fiscal year (projects that gained momentum in the second half of the prior fiscal year contributed for the full year)
  • Steady performance of products from mechanical component manufacturers and overseas manufacturers
  • Boost to sales from products of overseas manufacturers due to the ongoing weak yen trend
  • Sales and segment profit for the Device Business are expected to grow again in the next fiscal year (FY2027, ending March 2027)

Risks

  • Decline in gross profit margin due to changes in sales mix (segment profit decreased 2.8% year on year in the current period)
  • Increasing trend in SG&A expenses (squeezing profit despite higher sales)
  • Continued uncertainty due to US policy uncertainty and ongoing geopolitical risk
  • Risk of wire transfer fraud losses at overseas subsidiaries (an extraordinary loss of ¥267 million was recorded in the current period)
  • Foreign exchange risk (while a weaker yen boosts sales, it is offset by foreign exchange losses adjusted at the ordinary income level)
  • Risk of sales concentration in a major customer (Nintendo Co., Ltd.; sales of ¥29,752 million in the current period, approximately 17% of consolidated sales)
