Business

GSI Creos is a specialty trading company founded in 1931, comprising the Company together with 26 subsidiaries and 2 affiliates. Its business is divided into seven segments spanning Textiles (Fiber, Outerwear, Innerwear) and Industrial Products (Semiconductor, Chemical, Hobby & Life, Machinery & Equipment). The core Fiber segment accounts for approximately 63% of net sales of ¥188,677 million, with a business base centered on Functional Yarns & Fabrics for Innerwear and transactions with major customers such as Toray Industries (HK) Ltd. (26.18% of net sales) and Pacific Textiles Limited (15.26% of net sales). Leveraging a global network of 9 domestic and 27 overseas locations, the company handles a wide range of products from raw materials to finished goods.

Business Model

The company's core operations center on import/export transactions of raw yarns, fiber raw materials, chemicals, and industrial machinery, while also engaging in OEM/ODM contract manufacturing of apparel and innerwear products. Its gross profit margin stands at approximately 9.9% (FY2026, ending March 2026), reflecting a thin-margin, trading company-type structure, but diversification across 7 segments spreads dependence away from any single market. The company procures working capital through a combination of its own funds and financial institution borrowings, maintaining sound financial health with net interest-bearing debt of ¥4,249 million.

Company Strengths

The company has a stable, large-scale customer base, with sales to Toray Industries (HK) Ltd. of ¥49,396 million (26.18% of net sales) and sales to Pacific Textiles Limited of ¥28,782 million (15.26% of net sales), together accounting for approximately 41% of net sales. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), orders received in the Fiber segment reached ¥120,962 million (up 25.3% year on year), with the order backlog also building up to ¥12,820 million, confirming the continuity and expanding trend of transactions.

The company has three Fiber-related segments (Fiber, Outerwear, Innerwear) and four Industrial Products segments (Semiconductor, Chemical, Hobby & Life, Machinery & Equipment), dispersing dependence on specific markets. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), while Semiconductor sales declined 42.8%, Outerwear sales grew 36.4% and Machinery & Equipment sales grew 37.0%, with complementary effects among segments contributing to stability in overall performance.

The company has continuously expanded its business domains through M&A, including the acquisition of Sakura Bussan shares in 2022 and the acquisition of Soalon shares (Triacetate Fiber Business) in March 2025. Following the consolidation of Soalon, the Outerwear segment achieved substantial performance contributions in FY2026 (ending March 2026), with net sales up 36.4% year on year and operating profit up 98.7%. The company's ability to integrate businesses leveraging its network of more than 27 locations in Japan and overseas is a source of competitive advantage.

ENVALITH's Perspective

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the company achieved revenue of ¥188,677 million (up 14.0% year on year) and operating profit of ¥3,605 million (up 22.2% year on year), marking increases in both revenue and profit, with revenue and net income reaching record highs. However, the operating profit margin improved only slightly to 1.9% (from 1.8% in the previous fiscal year), and the trading company's high-volume, low-margin structure remains unchanged. SG&A expenses increased by ¥1,160 million year on year, and the cost increases accompanying revenue growth continue to constrain margin improvement, a point that warrants ongoing attention.

In the Semiconductor segment, due to the continuation of US export restrictions on semiconductors to China and changes in the distribution channels of certain products, revenue plunged 42.8% year on year to ¥6,085 million, and operating profit dropped 73.6% year on year to ¥120 million, showing sharp deterioration. As an external factor, the risk of prolonged US-China friction persists, and the outlook for recovery in this segment remains uncertain. On the other hand, goodwill amortization has been completed, easing the financial burden, but if the contraction in revenue scale continues, the rationale for continuing the business may come into question.

The consolidated financial forecast for FY2027 (ending March 2027) is revenue of ¥186,000 million (down 1.4% year on year), operating profit of ¥3,800 million (up 5.4% year on year), and net income of ¥2,600 million (up 2.2% year on year). Despite the forecasted decline in revenue, operating profit and net income are expected to increase, suggesting expectations for a qualitative improvement in the earnings structure. However, amid heightened uncertainty in global conditions (US trade policy, the Middle East situation, and the Ukraine situation), the downside risk from external factors is significant, and the likelihood of achieving the forecast needs to be assessed carefully.

Growth Strategy

Aiming to renew record-high net profit under the medium-term management plan "GSI CONNECT Phase 2" (2025-2027)

Continued promotion of transaction expansion centered on Functional Yarns & Fabrics for Innerwear. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), achieved net sales of ¥118,301 million, up 19.2% year on year. Although an allowance for doubtful accounts was recorded for a specific customer in the first quarter, the underlying trend of demand expansion continues, and the company will maintain growth in its core business alongside the expansion of overseas sales to Asia.

The Triacetate Fiber Business acquired in the previous fiscal year contributed in full in FY2026 (ending March 2026), with the Outerwear segment achieving net sales up 36.4% year on year and operating profit of ¥1,625 million, up 98.7% year on year. Improvement in the earnings structure through withdrawal from unprofitable businesses is also progressing, and synergies with OEM transactions for the U.S. market are expected.

Orders for large-scale composite material-related equipment projects and industrial machinery sales contributed, resulting in net sales of ¥6,056 million, up 37.0% year on year, and operating profit of ¥459 million, up 240.5% year on year, in FY2026 (ending March 2026). The company will continue its strategy of capturing structural growth in demand for composite materials in advanced industries such as aerospace and automotive.

The allowance for loss on business withdrawal decreased from ¥366 million at the end of FY2025 (ended March 2025) to zero at the end of FY2026 (ended March 2026), completing the withdrawal from unprofitable businesses. Loss on business withdrawal also declined significantly from ¥460 million in the previous fiscal year to ¥37 million in the current fiscal year. The improvement in earnings structure through portfolio reorganization is contributing to higher profit margins.

The company maintains its progressive dividend policy of a payout ratio of 50.0% or higher with a floor of ¥100 per share. The dividend for FY2026 (ending March 2026) was ¥104 (up ¥7 year on year), and the forecast for FY2027 (ending March 2027) is ¥106, continuing the progressive dividend trend. The company aims to enhance shareholder value through stable profit distribution during the medium-term management plan period.
