This segment manufactures, processes, and sells Surimi & Processed Fish Paste Products, Fresh Frozen Marine Products (Crab & Northern Frozen Fish), Fish Roe (Sukoko), and Processed Foods (Fillets, Smoked Products, Sushi Toppings, etc.). Consolidated subsidiaries handle the processing function, supplemented by imports from overseas subsidiaries. The integrated "from the coast to the table" system is the source of competitive advantage.
Recent Overview
Sales increased by ¥5,745 million, but profit declined by ¥293 million due to higher costs.
In the Food Business for FY2026 (ending March 2026), sales to external customers grew to ¥89,848 million (up ¥5,746 million year on year), driven by expanded Northern Frozen Fish sales to China and the capture of inbound demand for crab. On the other hand, segment profit declined to ¥1,660 million (down ¥293 million year on year). Sluggish market conditions in the surimi division and underperforming South American production, along with soaring raw material prices and rising manufacturing costs in the crab and processed foods businesses, squeezed profitability. Segment assets expanded to ¥44,466 million (up ¥6,450 million year on year) due to an increase in inventory and other factors.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Increased sales of crab and other marine products for commercial and food service use, driven by the establishment of inbound demand
- Continued expansion of exports to China of Northern Frozen Fish (redfish and Atka mackerel), capturing growing global demand
- Solid demand for commercial-use processed foods such as sushi toppings, centered on salmon and trout
- Strengthened profitability management through an integrated system spanning raw material procurement, manufacturing, and sales
- Measures to promote demand for marine products through "creating safe, secure, and high-value products" under the 140th Term Medium-Term Management Plan (Breaking Through Toward 2028)
Risks
- Rising manufacturing costs due to soaring raw material prices (crab, sukoko, etc.) and delays in passing costs on to prices
- Risk of reduced raw material procurement volumes due to rising seawater temperatures and poor domestic coastal catches
- Risk of production fluctuations at overseas procurement sources, such as sluggish South American surimi production
- Intensifying frugality in personal consumption amid rising prices, leading to weak sales to mass retailers
- Sharp fluctuations in raw material prices due to exchange rate volatility and geopolitical risks (Middle East situation, etc.)
- Risk of changing demand structures and deteriorating profitability by sales channel amid the progressing polarization of consumption
