Business
Kanox Corporation is a long-established steel wholesale trading company founded in 1897, headquartered in Nagoya and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Market. The company procures Steel Plates (Thin Sheets & Thick Plates), Steel Pipes (Small-to-Medium Diameter & Square Steel Pipes), Bar Steel, Stainless Steel (Thin Sheets & Pipes), and other products from blast furnace and electric furnace manufacturers, processes them—including cutting, drilling, and bending—at in-group processing facilities and outsourced processing partners, and sells them to customers in the automotive industry, led by Toyota Motor Corporation, as well as the construction and building materials industries. Leveraging its position as a primary trading company able to procure directly from blast furnace manufacturers, it has built a system capable of handling everything end-to-end, from order receipt and placement to processing, quality control, and small-lot delivery. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), net sales were ¥158,751 million, with sales to Toyota Motor Corporation accounting for 38.7% of total net sales.
Business Model
By maintaining a high proportion of "tied sales" (himozuke hanbai), which involves continuous and stable deliveries to major customers, the company secures stable sales volume and value while relatively limiting the risk of fluctuations in selling and purchasing prices caused by steel market volatility. In addition, the company secures spreads by providing added value through the use of processing functions within the group. It also engages in inventory sales and spot sales through distributors to flexibly respond to demand fluctuations and expand revenue opportunities. The gross profit margin for FY2026 (ending March 2026) is on an improving trend at 5.54% (versus 4.79% in the previous fiscal year).
Company Strengths
The Group holds the position of a primary distributor able to purchase steel materials directly from blast furnace manufacturers. This enables competitive procurement that eliminates intermediate distribution costs, and combined with an end-to-end system spanning from order receipt to small-lot delivery, achieves rapid and detailed supply response to customers.
"Tied sales" (himozuke hanbai), which involve continuous delivery to major customers, account for a high proportion of business, securing stable sales volume and value while relatively suppressing unit price risk from market fluctuations. In FY2026 (ending March 2026) as well, ordinary income and net income attributable to owners of parent renewed record highs, demonstrating the stability of this earnings structure through actual results.
The Group owns multiple subsidiaries and business sites responsible for steel pipe cutting, drilling, bending, and other processing, and by also collaborating with external outsourced processing partners, is able to provide diverse processing responses tailored to customer specifications. The main use of the ¥845 million in capital expenditure for FY2026 (ending March 2026) is the enhancement of processing equipment, reflecting ongoing reinforcement of processing capabilities.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Revenue over the past five fiscal years expanded rapidly from ¥116,521 million in FY2022 to ¥172,485 million in FY2024, but entered a plateau/decline phase for two consecutive periods, falling to ¥158,751 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Softening in the steel market is believed to be an external factor that pushed down revenue. Meanwhile, operating profit remained stable within a range of ¥2,300 million to ¥2,530 million across the five fiscal years, from ¥2,483 million in FY2022 to ¥2,509 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the impact of the revenue decline was absorbed by an improvement in gross profit margin to 5.54% (up from 4.79% in the previous period). Net income for the period reached ¥2,105 million, the highest level in the past five fiscal years. Comprehensive income, after correction, was ¥1,836 million (down 15.3% from ¥2,168 million in the previous period), mainly due to a deterioration in valuation difference on available-for-sale securities.
Growth Strategy
Pursuing sustainable growth through three pillars: margin improvement, carbon neutrality response, and enhancement of corporate value
Building a profit structure that secures earnings even when sales decline, through a mix shift toward high-value-added and processed products and maintaining the ratio of linked sales. Achieved a gross profit margin of 5.54% in FY2026 (ending March 2026), an improvement of 0.75 percentage points year on year. Continued improvement in the same direction is expected going forward.
Promoting the expansion of electric-furnace steel handling as a response to carbon neutrality. Aiming to strengthen proposal capabilities toward environmentally conscious customers and to acquire new customers. This is also positioned as a response to qualitative changes in steel demand accompanying the shift to EVs.
Advancing the sale of treasury shares through the share supply-demand buffer trust to improve the free-float ratio and promote shareholder return and corporate value enhancement measures. Aiming to expand the investor base through improved share liquidity in the market.
