Business Details

Primarily engaged in the manufacture and sale of women's formal wear and the sale of Accessories. Centered on wholesale sales to department stores and mass retailers nationwide, the company also operates real retail through Directly-Operated Stores (Forme Forma / kuros'), an EC Site, and a Rental Business. The company is rolling out its new brand "TOKYO SOIR" across all sales channels to address the diversification of ceremonial occasion needs, and is advancing efforts to improve customer experience and build a stable earnings base through value provision to the "formal life" market.

Recent Overview

Q1 FY2026 net sales down 8.9% and operating profit down 31.2%, a significant decline for the core business

In Q1 of FY2026 (ending December 2026) (January to March 2026), the Formal Wear Business posted net sales of ¥4,214 million (down 8.9% year on year) and operating profit of ¥346 million (down 31.2% year on year), a significant decline in both revenue and profit. This is believed to reflect the structural contraction of the wholesale channel and a growing consumer tendency toward frugality and low-price preferences. On the other hand, the EC and Rental businesses performed steadily. A new store was opened in Nagoya for the Rental Business at the end of March, continuing base expansion. Efforts to enhance brand value through the rollout of the new brand "TOKYO SOIR" across all sales channels are also underway.

Growth Drivers

  • Steady growth in online sales through use of EC Site marketing tools and optimized advertising operations
  • Capturing new customer segments through EC-exclusive original brands and collaboration projects
  • Expanding customer touchpoints through new store openings for Directly-Operated Stores and improving gross margin through stronger proper-price sales
  • Expanding services in the Rental Business through strengthened marketing measures, EC Site renovation, and the new Nagoya store
  • Enhancing brand value and expanding sales through the rollout of the new brand "TOKYO SOIR" across all sales channels
  • Expansion of the "formal life" market (proposing products in categories different from conventional ones and strengthening corporate proposals)
  • Continued pursuit of operational efficiency, including withdrawal from unprofitable stores, improved inventory turnover, and negotiation of trading terms

Risks

  • Structural contraction of the wholesale channel due to continued store closures and floor space reductions at department stores and mass retailers
  • Sluggish demand for formal wear due to a growing consumer tendency toward frugality and low-price preferences
  • Increased difficulty in determining product mix and timing of product launches due to climate change, and risk of stagnation in the autumn-winter sales season
  • Cost pressure from soaring raw material and energy prices and general price increases
  • Risk of persistently high SG&A expense ratio and deteriorating profitability amid sluggish sales growth
  • Risk of dependence on a concentrated business partner, with sales to AEON Retail Co., Ltd. accounting for 15.4% of net sales
