Business

Kyodo Printing Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive printing company founded in 1897, comprising the company, 16 subsidiaries, and 1 affiliate. Its operations consist of three segments: the Information & Communications Segment (publishing, commercial printing, content), the Information Security Segment (business forms, securities, cards, BPO), and the Living & Industrial Materials Segment (flexible packaging, tubes, paper containers, industrial materials), in addition to Other (logistics, real estate management). Major customers span a broad range including publishers, government agencies, financial institutions, and food and daily necessities manufacturers, and the company also has production bases in Southeast Asia. Consolidated net sales for FY2026 (ending March 2026) were ¥98,205 million.

Business Model

Based on integrated plate-making, printing, and bookbinding production capabilities, the company operates Publishing Printing, security printing, and BPO outsourcing in its information-related businesses, and manufactures and sells packaging materials in its living and industrial materials-related businesses. In-house group logistics (Kyodo Butsuryu Co., Ltd.) and real estate management serve complementary functions. Revenue is composed of a combination of product sales and outsourced information-processing services, with a structure aimed at improving profit margins through a shift toward high-value-added areas leveraging high-security environments and proprietary technologies.

Company Strengths

The Information Security Segment, which handles securities, various cards, and business forms, provides products meeting advanced security requirements such as transit IC cards, tickets, and data printing for government agencies. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), segment sales were ¥30,478 million, accounting for approximately 31% of total company sales, maintaining a stable customer base in an area with high entry barriers.

The Living & Industrial Materials Segment engages in integrated production of a diverse range of packaging materials, including film packaging for instant noodles, laminate tubes, blow bottles, and paper containers. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), segment sales were ¥33,170 million (up 2.6% year on year), and operating profit was ¥15,221 million (up 25.7% year on year), with growth accelerating; the segment also has overseas bases in Vietnam and Indonesia.

R&D expenses for FY2026 (ending March 2026) totaled ¥1,073 million. Development continues across a wide range of fields, including liquid packaging materials, high-performance lid materials, tube products, high-performance materials, anti-counterfeiting security technology, and indoor positioning technology. With the Technology Development Division at its core, a system has been established in which the technology departments of each segment collaborate, providing a foundation for the continuous creation of new products and new technologies.

ENVALITH's Perspective

In FY2026 (ending March 2025), revenue declined to ¥98,205 million (down ¥1,772 million year on year), turning to a decrease, while operating income showed a modest decline to ¥2,134 million (down ¥197 million year on year). Net income increased to ¥3,960 million from ¥3,310 million in the previous fiscal year; however, this appears to be largely attributable to non-operating and extraordinary income/loss items, suggesting that the improvement in core business profitability remains limited. The operating margin remains at a low level of approximately 2.2%, and a fundamental acceleration of the shift in the business portfolio is essential to achieving the medium-term targets.

Net income of ¥3,960 million in FY2026 (ending March 2025) significantly exceeds operating income of ¥2,134 million, suggesting the influence of extraordinary gains (such as gains on asset sales) or tax effect impacts. A similar divergence was observed in the previous fiscal year as well, FY2025 (ending March 2025) (operating income of ¥2,331 million versus net income of ¥3,310 million), indicating a need to closely examine the sustainability and quality of net income. It is advisable for investors to focus primarily on profitability based on operating income.

On June 19, 2026, a correction to the consolidated statement of cash flows was announced. Proceeds from long-term borrowings were revised from ¥238 million to ¥85 million, and repayments of long-term borrowings were revised from ¥2,590 million to ¥2,438 million; however, total cash flow from financing activities (¥5,360 million negative) remains unchanged. Although there is no substantive impact on business performance, investors should pay close attention to the company's disclosure process management system.

Growth Strategy

Aiming for operating profit of ¥12 billion or more in FY2034 through the shift to non-print services in the information segment and overseas expansion and high-value-added development in packaging materials

Promoting expansion of original works in e-comics, capturing high-value-added commercial printing demand in the Learning Solutions and IR fields, and advancing overseas expansion of the content business through the establishment of the U.S. subsidiary Kodama Tales Inc. Accelerating the shift away from print dependency to improve segment profitability.

Promoting overseas packaging expansion centered on Southeast Asia, along with the development and sales expansion of high-value-added functional materials and industrial packaging materials. Continuing to implement appropriate price revisions in response to rising raw material costs, aiming to maintain and improve segment profitability.

Promoting improved profitability through consolidation of group companies and manufacturing sites. Strengthening the stable revenue base by expanding information service BPO for healthcare and financial institutions and enhancing proposals for business digital shift support services leveraging the high-security environment.

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), conducted share buybacks of ¥958 million and dividend payments of ¥1,728 million. Maintaining a policy of continuing shareholder returns while improving capital efficiency.
