Business

Sun Messe Co., Ltd. was founded in 1935 and is headquartered in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, as a comprehensive printing company. The group, which includes 3 consolidated subsidiaries, is composed of two segments: the Printing Business, which provides a wide range of printing-related services including Commercial Printing, publication printing, Packaging Printing, IPS-related (Information Security Printing), BPO-related, Corporate Communications, and information communication; and the Event Business, which plans and manages various events. The company operates locations nationwide, including Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Kanazawa, with corporations, government agencies, and organizations as its main customers. In 2025, the company celebrated its 90th anniversary and has launched its medium- to long-term management plan "Change -SX2035-" aimed toward its 100th anniversary in 2035.

Business Model

By completing planning, design, plate-making, printing, and bookbinding through an in-house integrated production system, the company suppresses outsourcing processing costs and secures cost competitiveness. It also internalizes high value-added information processing services such as IPS (data print services) and BPO (sorting, packing, and shipping), aiming for a revenue model that emphasizes marginal profit. Cash flow from operating activities serves as the main source of funds, which is allocated to capital expenditure, working capital, and shareholder returns.

Company Strengths

IPS-related (Information Security Printing) achieved net sales of ¥2,286 million (up 23.2% year on year) in FY2026 (ending March 2025), with large-scale special demand boosting operating profit. The Head Office Fifth Plant has obtained ISO/IEC27001 (ISMS) certification, and the in-house security infrastructure serves as a barrier to competitor entry.

The company has built an integrated production system that completes everything from planning to bookbinding within its own plants. In FY2026 (ending March 2025), cost reductions from promoting in-house production were one factor that boosted gross profit by 8.4% year on year (an increase of ¥2,807 million). The low dependence on outsourcing enhances resilience to fluctuations in raw material and outsourcing costs.

With a 90-year history since its founding in 1935, the company operates sales offices in major cities nationwide, including Gifu, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Kanazawa. It has obtained multiple certifications and accreditations, including ISO9001, ISO14001, Privacy Mark, Eruboshi certification (3-star rating), and Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organization 2026 (Large Enterprise Category), forming a foundation of customer trust.

ENVALITH's Perspective

Operating profit for FY2026 (ending March 2026) recovered to ¥325 million (up ¥190 million year on year) and net income to ¥461 million (up ¥129 million year on year), the highest levels in the past five fiscal years. Revenue also reached ¥17,131 million, the highest since FY2022 (ended March 2022). However, the operating margin remains at only around 1.9%, and continued effort will be needed to achieve a full-fledged exit from the structurally low-profit business model.

The correction this time concerns misstatements of the amounts of deposits into and withdrawals from time deposits within investing cash flow (each corrected by approximately ¥45 million), with no change to total investing cash flow (-¥37 million) and no impact on business results. Meanwhile, proceeds from sales and redemption of investment securities of ¥421 million also occurred in the current period, and it should continue to be noted that the earnings structure in which ordinary income depends on non-operating income persists.

Looking at the results trend over the past five fiscal years, revenue has remained flat in the range of ¥16,400 million to ¥17,100 million, and the ¥17,131 million recorded in FY2026 (ending March 2026) represents a return to the upper end of that range. Operating profit peaked at ¥464 million in FY2022 (ended March 2022), then declined before recovering to ¥325 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Growth areas such as BPO-related, IPS-related, and Packaging Printing are serving as drivers, but given the external environment of an overall shrinking printing market (as a market condition), the balance between the pace of expansion in growth areas and the downward pressure on revenue from existing areas will be key to sustained improvement.

Growth Strategy

Promoting business portfolio reform and improved capital efficiency under the theme "Beyond Printing."

Positioning Information Security Printing (IPS), BPO, and packaging printing as key growth areas, the company continues to expand order intake. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), BPO-related saw a significant recovery, while IPS-related (Information Security Printing) and packaging printing maintained high growth, functioning as profit pillars that offset the contraction of the printing market.

With the aim of strengthening its Corporate Communications area, the company established Sinc Co., Ltd. and entered the sustainability consulting business. It leverages expertise in corporate communication support cultivated through the Printing Business to expand into non-printing areas.

The company continues to pursue margin improvement through reductions in outsourced processing costs. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the operating margin improved significantly to 1.9% from 0.8% in the previous fiscal year, with the cost-reduction effects of leveraging the integrated production system becoming increasingly evident.
