Business Details

A wholesale business that sells marine products in general to wholesalers, mass retailers, food manufacturers, etc., both inside and outside the market, based primarily at the central wholesale markets in Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe. In addition to the Company itself, four subsidiaries belong to this business. It consists of two divisions—the Market Sales Division (fresh fish, salted/frozen products) and the Off-Market Sales Division (surimi for processing manufacturers, overseas sales, etc.)—and is the core segment accounting for over 99% of the Group's consolidated net sales.

Recent Overview

Both sales and profit increased significantly year on year, driven by higher unit prices and strong off-market sales.

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Marine Products Sales Business achieved net sales of ¥105,540 million (up 6.5% year on year) and segment profit of ¥1,036 million (up 25.0% year on year). In the Market Sales Division, increased catches of saury and squid and steady handling of farmed fish contributed to results. In salted/frozen products, higher unit prices for salmon/trout, salted mackerel, dried young sardines, and whitebait contributed to increased revenue. In the Off-Market Sales Division, sales of frozen fish for overseas markets, centered on mackerel, and sales of surimi to domestic processing manufacturers performed well. On the other hand, volume and value handled for oysters, scallops, sea urchin, and autumn salmon decreased due to changes in the marine environment.

Key Products

service
Fresh Fish Wholesale (Market Sales Division)

Handles natural fish such as saury and squid, as well as farmed tuna, sea bream, salmon, and natural yellowtail. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the volume handled increased due to higher catches of saury and squid, while oysters, scallops, sea urchin, and autumn salmon saw unstable supply due to rising seawater temperatures and other factors, resulting in decreased volume and value handled.

service
Salted/Frozen & Other Wholesale (Market Sales Division)

The amount handled increased due to higher unit sales prices for salmon/trout, salted mackerel, dried young sardines, and whitebait, while frozen fish and crab saw decreases in both volume and value handled. Against the backdrop of the continued yen depreciation trend, prices of imported fish remained at elevated levels.

service
Off-Market Sales (Processing & Overseas Sales)

Sales of frozen fish for overseas markets, centered on mackerel, and sales of surimi to domestic processing manufacturers continued to perform well in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Sales growth through off-market channels contributed to the increase in revenue for the segment as a whole.

Growth Drivers

  • Steady increase in sales volume of frozen surimi to domestic processing manufacturers
  • Support for net sales from rising marine product prices (higher unit prices)
  • Steady trend in demand for dining out (including inbound demand)
  • Improved procurement capability through strengthened networks with shippers in production areas
  • Expansion of frozen fish sales for overseas markets, centered on mackerel
  • Promotion of more efficient logistics operations by the Logistics Planning Department

Risks

  • Continued decline in catches of natural fish due to climate change and rising seawater temperatures (effects becoming apparent on oysters, scallops, sea urchin, autumn salmon, etc.)
  • Continued high procurement costs for imported marine products due to the sustained yen depreciation trend
  • Increased pressure on fixed costs due to rising prices for labor, logistics, and other expenses
  • Sluggish demand for home-cooked meals due to strengthened consumer thrift amid rising prices
  • Risk of decreased volume handled due to the declining trend in the wholesale market throughput ratio (by volume)
  • Risk of dependence on major suppliers
  • Intensifying competition for domestic procurement due to expanding overseas demand for marine products
