Business Details
Structures operating lease deals for aircraft, vessels, and marine shipping containers, and provides them primarily to institutional and corporate investors through the Anonymous Partnership Scheme or Money Trust Scheme. The Group earns fees from SPCs and other entities through the arrangement, management, and sale of these deals, which are recognized as revenue. The Group also conducts lease arrangement business for U.S. investors through FPG Amentum Limited. In the first half of FY2026 (ending March 2026), the segment achieved higher revenue and profit due to sales of high-profitability deals and fee recognition associated with the conclusion of lease arrangement deals for U.S. investors.
Recent Overview
H1 origination amount hit a five-year high, with both revenue and gross profit up year on year.
Lease business origination amount in H1 FY2026 (ending March 2026) reached ¥277,754 million (up 53.1% year on year), the highest H1 amount in the past five years, driven by aggressive origination including large marine shipping deals that sold out shortly after origination. Investment interest sales amount, supported by robust investor demand, was ¥108,120 million (down 4.8% year on year), maintaining a level above ¥100,000 million for the third consecutive fiscal half. Sales of high-profitability deals improved margins, and fee recognition from FPG Amentum Limited's conclusion of lease arrangement deals for U.S. investors contributed to revenue of ¥17,141 million (up 18.0% year on year) and gross profit of ¥15,120 million (up 24.0% year on year). Despite record origination over the past five years, the product investment interest balance was maintained at the prior year-end level of ¥50,910 million, confirming a high turnover rate.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Expansion of origination amount through aggressive structuring of large-scale deals centered on marine shipping deals (H1 FY2026, ending March 2026: ¥277,754 million, up 53.1% year on year, a five-year high)
- Increased fee income from expanded conclusion of lease arrangement deals for U.S. investors through FPG Amentum Limited
- Improved gross margin from a higher proportion of high-profitability deal sales (H1 gross margin of 88.2%)
- Sustained high level of investment interest sales supported by robust investor demand (exceeding ¥100,000 million for three consecutive fiscal halves)
- Aggressive origination push targeting full-year FY2026 (ending March 2026) lease business origination amount of ¥578,507 million (up 58.5% year on year)
Risks
- Uncertainty over whether robust investor demand will continue, given a slight 4.8% year-on-year decline in investment interest sales amount
- Risk of increased SG&A expenses due to higher bonus provisions associated with FPG Amentum Limited's strong performance, affecting operating profit
- Risk that lease business origination amount may fluctuate due to delivery schedule delays and other factors
- Foreign exchange risk (operating lease business is primarily originated in foreign currencies)
- Risk of rising interest rates due to increased borrowings for asset acquisition (short-term borrowings increased by ¥13,770 million from the prior fiscal year-end)
- Risk of supply-demand fluctuations in the aircraft, vessel, and container markets and lessee credit risk
