Business

Mabuchi Motor, founded in 1958, is a specialist manufacturer of small motors, producing and selling small motors for automotive electronics equipment (power windows, power seats, valves, etc.) and life & industry equipment (health/medical, home appliances, industrial equipment, etc.). The company consists of the parent company and 36 consolidated subsidiaries (35 of which are consolidated), operating across four segments: Japan, Asia, Americas, and Europe. Approximately 95% of production is handled by bases in Asia, establishing a global local-production-for-local-consumption structure. Consolidated net sales for FY2025 were ¥200,417 million, with automotive electronics equipment accounting for approximately 77% of sales. In recent years, the company has expanded its business domain into gears, stepping motors, and motion control through M&A.

Business Model

Based on its "standardization strategy," the Company develops highly versatile small motors, securing cost competitiveness through mass production at its Asia bases, while supplying diverse customers in automobiles, home appliances, medical equipment and other fields through sales and manufacturing sites across four global regions. In recent years, in addition to selling individual motors, the Company has expanded its business domain to offer unit solutions under the "e-MOTO" concept, combining gears and control systems, aiming to enhance added value and improve profitability. Working capital and capital expenditures are financed mainly through internal funds, maintaining sound financial health.

Company Strengths

Approximately 95% of group production is handled by Asia bases (China, Vietnam, Taiwan, etc.), achieving cost reductions through advanced processing technology and minimization of waste. Consolidated operating profit for FY2025 was ¥25,467 million (up 17.7% year on year), with an operating margin of 12.7%, the highest level in the past five fiscal years, as profitability improved alongside better selling prices and product mix.

At the end of FY2025, the equity ratio stood at 90.3%, and cash and cash equivalents totaled ¥139,930 million (up ¥9,363 million from the previous fiscal year-end). Against total assets of ¥370,163 million, total liabilities were extremely low at ¥35,927 million, giving the company sufficient financial capacity to fund M&A and capital expenditure from its own resources.

The company has continuously executed M&A, including Mabuchi Electromag (medical brushless motors) in 2021, Mabuchi Oken (small pumps) in 2023, Mabuchi OB Gear System (High-Precision Resin Gears) in April 2025, Mabuchi Microtech (stepping motors) in July 2025, and Mabuchi NPM (motion control) in January 2026, strengthening its capability to offer unit solutions.

ENVALITH's Perspective

In Q1 of FY2026 (ending December 2026), net sales were ¥50,373 million (up 7.3% year-on-year) and net income attributable to owners of the parent was ¥5,801 million (up 74.4% year-on-year), both strong, while operating income declined to ¥5,395 million (down 15.4% year-on-year). Factors reducing profit, such as cost increases, outweighed improvements in selling prices and product mix. The significant increase in net income was mainly driven by an external factor—improvement in foreign exchange gains/losses (prior-year period: foreign exchange loss of ¥2,837 million → current period: foreign exchange gain of ¥1,066 million)—and this should be evaluated separately from any improvement in the profitability of the core business.

Following the acquisition of Nippon Pulse Motor (goodwill of ¥944 million, provisional figure), the company resolved to acquire Masudac (approximate value ¥15,632 million). The M&A strategy toward the net sales target of ¥300,000 million under "Management Plan 2030" is accelerating, but there is a need to carefully assess the risk of rising integration costs, including the fact that the goodwill amortization period has not yet been determined, that the impact of Masudac's performance is still under review, and that increased selling, general and administrative expenses (prior-year period: ¥7,849 million → current period: ¥9,446 million) are pressuring operating income.

The full-year forecast for FY2026 (ending December 2026) remains unchanged, with net sales of ¥213,000 million (up 6.3% year-on-year) and operating income of ¥26,000 million (up 2.1% year-on-year). The foreign exchange assumption is ¥150 to the US dollar. As external factors, downside risks explicitly cited include a decline in automotive demand in the US and Europe due to US tariff policy, sluggish sales in China due to the scaling back of subsidy policies, and higher crude oil prices due to geopolitical risk. On the other hand, growth in automobile production volumes in emerging markets, centered on India, and contributions from M&A companies could serve as upside factors.

Growth Strategy

Aiming for FY2030 net sales of ¥300,000 million centered on the three "M" domains, leveraging the "e-MOTO" concept and M&A initiatives

On January 8, 2026, the Company acquired all shares of Japan Pulse Motor Co., Ltd. (now: Mabuchi Motor NPM) for ¥6,517 million, consolidating 13 companies. This acquisition secured precision small motors, motor drivers, controllers, and motion control technology, driving business expansion into the medical, semiconductor, industrial machinery, defense, and aerospace fields. Goodwill of ¥944 million (provisional figure) was recognized.

Resolved by the Board of Directors on April 23, 2026. The Company plans to acquire Masdac (net sales of ¥14,220 million for FY2025 (ended March 2025)), a food machinery manufacturer, for approximately ¥15,632 million. The deal aims to combine Masdac's high engineering capabilities, such as its fully automatic dorayaki-making machines, with the Company's global production and sales network to accelerate overseas expansion of food machinery. The impact on the current consolidated fiscal year's results is under review.

Driven by increased orders for power seats and power windows (medium-sized electronics) and air conditioner dampers (small electronics), sales in the automotive electronics equipment market for 1Q FY2026 rose to ¥39,151 million (up 6.7% year on year). Under a profitability-focused policy, the Company continues to promote selling price improvements and a shift toward a higher value-added product mix.

While narrowing down orders for home appliances, tools, housing equipment, and beauty/hair care applications in favor of profitability, the Company maintains stable demand for health and medical equipment while pursuing new orders in the machinery and mobility applications. Sales in the life & industry equipment market for 1Q FY2026 rose to ¥11,218 million (up 9.2% year on year), also boosted by the consolidation effect of M&A companies.
