Business

Sansei Technologies (Sansei Technologies, Inc.) was founded in 1939 and is a Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market-listed manufacturer specializing exclusively in automotive parts. Its core products are brake piping, fuel piping, and thermal management components based on steel tube application technology, with manufacturing and sales operations spanning five regions: Japan, North and South America, Europe, China, and Asia. The company has 31 consolidated subsidiaries and 2 affiliated companies, with consolidated net sales of ¥159,387 million for FY2026 (ending March 2026). Its major customers are three major Japanese automakers—Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (21.4% of sales), Toyota Motor Corporation (16.4%), and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (10.2%)—and in recent years the company has also expanded supply to the U.S. Big Three and mega Tier 1 suppliers. In addition to automotive parts, the company is also cultivating new businesses including Water-Cooled/Liquid-Cooled Thermal Management Components for Data Centers, production solution equipment, and wire condensers for refrigerators.

Business Model

The company establishes production bases near the factories of its automaker customers, adopting a proximity-supply model in which large, transport-inefficient piping products are manufactured and delivered locally. Through a "last-man-standing strategy" of remaining in the market even after competitors withdraw, it becomes a regionally dominant supplier, strengthening its price pass-through negotiating power while securing stable revenue. It also aims to diversify revenue sources by externally selling equipment based on in-house equipment know-how and by applying its technology to thermal management markets outside of automobiles.

Company Strengths

The company has manufacturing bases in Japan, North and South America, Europe, China, and Asia, enabling production and delivery near customer plants. Since piping products are large and inefficient to transport, the local production system itself constitutes a barrier to entry. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), North and South America sales reached ¥67,799 million, forming the company's largest segment, and the depth of the global supply network forms the foundation of its competitive advantage.

Under this strategy advocated since 2020, the company has established a monopolistic supply system in markets such as Brazil, the UK, and Mexico where competitors have withdrawn. Achievements include securing orders from one of the US Big Three automakers and enhancing capacity in the fuel injection business through the July 2025 acquisition of a Mexican subsidiary (Sanoh Powertrain Mexico), demonstrating tangible gains in survivor profits and improved pricing power.

Building on its adoption in the supercomputer "Fugaku," the company completed development of Water-Cooled/Liquid-Cooled Thermal Management Components for Data Centers (ball valve joints, shutoff connectors) and secured mass-production orders from multiple domestic customers in September 2025. At its India base, the company also operates a wire condenser business for refrigerators, building a track record of revenue sources outside the automotive sector.

ENVALITH's Perspective

In the North and South America segment for FY2026 (ending March 2025), operating profit plunged sharply from ¥1,744 million in the previous period to an operating loss of ¥327 million. In addition to the impact of US tariff measures, extraordinary costs related to import troubles and increased new startup costs compounded the situation. The FY2027 (ending March 2027) forecast calls for a significant recovery to operating profit of ¥5,500 million (+35.0% YoY), but there is a risk that achieving this forecast could be difficult depending on the trajectory of US tariff measures. As an external factor, uncertainty over US trade policy is high, and attention should be paid to the reliability of the earnings forecast.

Cash flow from operating activities in FY2026 (ending March 2025) fell sharply to ¥1,478 million from ¥8,484 million in the previous period. Meanwhile, investing activities resulted in expenditure of ¥13,471 million (including ¥10,088 million for acquisition of property, plant and equipment and ¥1,338 million for acquisition of a Mexican subsidiary, etc.), and the company raised ¥12,914 million through financing activities (including ¥19,996 million in long-term borrowings, etc.). Total assets expanded to ¥141,929 million (+¥24,791 million YoY), while the equity ratio declined from 37.8% to 33.8%, warranting attention to the increasing reliance on borrowings.

Net sales for FY2026 (ending March 2025) were ¥159,387 million, down 0.1% YoY, remaining roughly flat, clearly showing a slowdown in growth since FY2024 (ending March 2024). The China segment continued to post an operating loss of ¥348 million (narrowing from a loss of ¥963 million in the previous period), and Europe turned profitable, though the scale of profit remains small. For FY2027 (ending March 2027), the company forecasts net sales of ¥167,000 million (+4.8%) and operating profit of ¥5,500 million (+35.0%), but the operating margin is expected to remain at around 3.3%, similar to the 3.3% in FY2026 (ending March 2025), meaning fundamental profitability improvement is required to achieve the ROE target.

Growth Strategy

Aim for FY2030 (ending March 2030) net sales of ¥200,000 million and ROE of 15% or higher through the Last Man Standing strategy to capture survivor profits and diversification into new non-automotive businesses

Sanoh Powertrain Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V. was newly consolidated in FY2026 (ending March 2026) to enhance capacity in the fuel injection business. The Company is addressing U.S. tariff measures (supply chain review and price pass-through negotiations) and aims to restore North and South America earnings by FY2027 (ending March 2027). FY2026 (ending March 2026) recorded an operating loss due to extraordinary costs and tariff impacts, making normalization an urgent priority.

In Europe, fixed cost reductions through plant closures and headcount reductions continued, achieving operating profit of ¥280 million and a return to profitability in FY2026 (ending March 2026). In China, personnel restructuring, partial business withdrawal, and subsidiary liquidation reduced the operating loss from ¥963 million to ¥348 million. The Company will continue to streamline unprofitable businesses and improve its profit and loss structure.

The Company is promoting order-based sales of Water-Cooled/Liquid-Cooled Thermal Management Components for Data Centers and sales of Automotive Parts Manufacturing Equipment to external customers (production solutions business). External sales in the Japan segment for FY2026 (ending March 2026) reached ¥32,657 million (up 12.0% year on year), a substantial increase driven by newly launched equipment sales and parts sales.

The Company continues capital investment focused on India and Thailand (an increase of ¥1,633 million in property, plant and equipment, etc. in the Asia segment in FY2026 (ending March 2026)) to expand production capacity. The revenue-boosting effect of increased production at the Indian subsidiary is becoming evident, and the Company will strengthen Asia as a stable earnings base for the Group, including expansion of the wire condenser business for refrigerators.
