Business Details
Comprises the AC Servo Motor & Controller business and the Inverter business. Develops, manufactures, sells, and maintains AC servo drives, linear motors, controllers, general-purpose inverters, solar power conditioners, and other products. Serves a broad range of industries including semiconductors, electronic components, machine tools, air conditioning, and data centers as customers, and provides total solutions based on the i³-Mechatronics concept.
Recent Overview
Driven by semiconductor and data center demand, the first quarter achieved higher revenue and substantially higher profit
In the first quarter of FY2027 (ending March 2027) (March–May 2026), the Motion Control segment achieved revenue of ¥67,635 million (up 21.5% year on year) and operating profit of ¥7,562 million (up 50.1% year on year), a substantial increase in both revenue and profit. In the AC Servo business, sales increased across all global regions, driven mainly by semiconductors, electronic components, and machine tools. In the Inverter business, demand expanded for data center air conditioning and server cooling applications, vacuum pumps for semiconductor manufacturing, and oil & gas related applications. Although there was an impact on production operations due to the core system migration, the profit increase from higher revenue outweighed this, resulting in a substantial profit increase.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Expanding demand for AC servos in the electronic components and machine tool markets, driven by increased AI and semiconductor-related investment (increases across all global regions)
- Expanding demand for inverters used in data center building air conditioning and server cooling applications, and vacuum pumps in semiconductor manufacturing
- Expansion of oil & gas related inverter sales
- Expanded sales of solar power conditioners in the domestic self-consumption market
- Strengthening of total solution proposals through the global expansion of iCube Control
- Improved profit margins through value-added improvements (product mix and production efficiency gains)
Risks
- Downward pressure on demand due to continued cautious capital expenditure in the automotive market
- Ongoing risk of impact on production operations depending on the state of stabilization following the core system migration
- Risk of profit pressure from foreign exchange fluctuations (yen appreciation) (assumed rate for FY2027 (ending March 2027): ¥145.00/USD)
- Continued demand uncertainty due to geopolitical risk and US tariff policy
- Uncertainty over the pace of recovery in the semiconductor market
