Business Details

The Industrial Machinery Business manufactures and sells Ball Bearings, Tapered Roller Bearings, Cylindrical Roller Bearings, and precision bearings for general industrial applications, as well as ball screws, linear guides, XY tables, mega torque motors, Condition Monitoring Systems, and other products. The business targets a wide range of industrial customers including machine tools, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, the aftermarket, electrical/electronic equipment, and railways, and operates globally across Japan, the Americas, Europe, China, ASEAN, and other regions. Capturing demand in the electrification, automation, digitalization, and environmental markets serves as a core pillar of the growth strategy.

Recent Overview

Net sales increased on gradual recovery in capital expenditure demand, but profit declined due to European restructuring costs

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Industrial Machinery Business achieved increased sales of ¥377,491 million (up 4.4% year on year), supported by a gradual recovery in capital expenditure demand. By region, Japan saw increased sales driven by higher sales of machine tool applications; the Americas saw increased sales due to growth in aftermarket and semiconductor manufacturing equipment demand as well as the effect of passing tariff costs on to selling prices; and China saw increased sales driven mainly by machine tool applications. On the other hand, sales declined in Europe due to worsening market conditions. Operating profit decreased to ¥12,565 million (down 9.9% year on year), partly due to the impact of one-time costs associated with the restructuring of European operations.

Key Products

Precision Machinery Products (Ball Screws, Linear Guides, etc.)

Manufactures and sells precision machinery products such as ball screws, linear guides, XY tables, and mega torque motors. Demand is expanding, centered on machine tool and semiconductor manufacturing equipment applications, and these are expected to contribute to earnings as high-value-added products.

platform
Condition Monitoring Systems

A system that uses sensors to monitor the condition of mechanical components such as bearings, enabling predictive maintenance. Against the backdrop of increasing demand for digitalization and automation, the company is promoting the market launch of this as a high-value-added product.

Growth Drivers

  • Increased capital expenditure demand centered on semiconductor-related fields amid expanding AI demand
  • Steady demand trends for aftermarket and semiconductor manufacturing equipment applications in the Americas
  • Securing earnings through promotion of tariff cost pass-through to selling prices
  • Increased sales in China centered on machine tool applications
  • Capturing new demand in the electrification, automation, digitalization, and environmental markets
  • Promoting the development and market launch of high-value-added products such as Condition Monitoring Systems

Risks

  • Risk of continued deterioration in market conditions and sluggish demand in Europe
  • Risk of global economic slowdown due to US trade policy (additional tariffs)
  • Geopolitical risks and foreign exchange rate fluctuation risk
  • Uncertainty over the outlook for the Chinese economy (real estate market downturn, weak personal consumption)
  • Demand uncertainty due to fluctuations in the capital expenditure cycle
  • Risk of incurring one-time costs associated with the structural reform of European operations
