Business Details

The Japan Segment handles the development, manufacturing, and sales functions carried out by Takeuchi Mfg. Co., Ltd. (the parent company), with the majority of sales attributable to sales to European distributors and Australian distributors. Mini Excavators, Hydraulic Excavators, Crawler Loaders, and other equipment are manufactured at domestic plants and supplied to consolidated subsidiaries in the United States, United Kingdom, and France, as well as to European distributors. Inter-segment internal sales substantially exceed external sales, reflecting the segment's function as the manufacturing base for the entire group.

Recent Overview

Sales increased on price hikes for Europe and yen depreciation effects, with profit margin significantly improved

In the first quarter of FY2027 (ending March 2027) (March to May 2026), the Japan Segment's external customer sales were ¥17,299 million (up 0.9% year on year). While demand for Mini Excavators in Europe recovered gradually, unit sales fell below the same period of the prior year due to a rebound decline following inventory buildup by some distributors in the prior-year period, as well as the closure of business by the Australian distributor. On the other hand, segment profit improved substantially to ¥9,217 million (up 17.0% year on year), driven by price increases for European distributors and the effect of yen depreciation.

product
Aftermarket Parts (Genuine Parts)

Under the Fourth Medium-Term Management Plan, expanding sales of Aftermarket Parts (Genuine Parts) has been positioned as a key initiative, with efforts including promoting the benefits of genuine parts and proposing extended warranty periods.

Growth Drivers

  • Improvement in sales unit price and profit margin through price increases for European distributors
  • Gradual recovery trend in demand for Mini Excavators in Europe (recovery from a sluggish economic environment)
  • Capacity expansion through construction of a new Crawler Loader plant (adjacent to the Aoki plant), expected to reach full operation from FY2029 (ending February 2029) onward
  • Expansion of the battery-powered Mini Excavator lineup
  • Expansion of Aftermarket Parts (Genuine Parts) sales (promoting genuine parts benefits and proposing extended warranty periods)
  • Strengthening product competitiveness through new model launches (Hydraulic Excavators TB3150/TB3150R, Crawler Loader TL11R3)
  • Commencement of joint research toward practical application of autonomous operation of construction machinery

Risks

  • Impact of US tariff policy: of the ¥35,373 million increase in tariff costs in Q1 (group-wide), ¥16,633 million was passed through in prices, resulting in an ¥18,733 million profit-reducing factor
  • Foreign exchange risk: impact on sales and profit from yen appreciation (FY2027 (ending February 2027) forecast assumes USD147, GBP200, EUR174)
  • Continued sluggishness in the European economy: market recovery is delayed, particularly in France, creating uncertainty regarding recovery in unit sales to European distributors
  • Decrease in unit sales due to the closure of business by the Australian distributor (decline in sales to Asia and Oceania)
  • Risk of a rebound decline due to inventory adjustment by European distributors
  • Fluctuation in internal sales due to production adjustments: changes in wholesale prices and sales volume to the US subsidiary directly affect segment profit
  • Inventory risk related to battery-powered excavator parts: risk of recurring valuation losses depending on demand trends for electrified products
