Business Details
Manufactures and sells steel rolling rolls, ingot molds, automotive die castings, dense bar (continuous cast iron bar), general castings, etc. Domestically, the segment has a wide-ranging presence covering shipbuilding, steel, automotive, machine tool, and civil engineering industries, while overseas, Chinese subsidiaries (Tianjin Kouki Casting Co., Ltd. and Nantong Kouki Casting Co., Ltd.) manufacture and sell automotive press die castings. Consolidated subsidiary Koguchi Alloy Casting Co., Ltd. handles aluminum alloy castings for semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
Recent Overview
Weak automotive die casting and semiconductor equipment demand caused both sales and profit to fall below the prior period.
For the full year of FY2026 (ending March 2026), Casting Field sales were ¥22,767 million (prior period: ¥23,616 million, down 3.6% year on year), and segment profit was ¥888 million (prior period: ¥1,326 million, down 33.0% year on year), representing a significant decline in profit. The main causes were the decline in automotive press die castings due to postponement or cancellation of new vehicle development plans by domestic automakers, and weak demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment at Koguchi Alloy Casting Co., Ltd. On the other hand, large castings for overseas aerospace and energy-related machine tools trended favorably.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Expanding demand for large castings used in overseas aerospace and energy-related machine tools
- Continued solid demand for forging molds for shipbuilding
- Stable order intake for rolls from domestic electric furnace makers
- Recovery of automotive press die casting demand as domestic automakers' new vehicle development plans normalize
- Promotion of cost pass-through and profitability improvement measures through product price corrections
- Order securing and sales expansion in the Chinese market by Chinese subsidiaries (Tianjin Kouki Casting and Nantong Kouki Casting)
Risks
- Risk of fluctuating demand for automotive die castings due to postponement of new vehicle development plans by major domestic automakers and the shift to EVs
- Risk of deteriorating earnings at Chinese subsidiaries due to China's economic slowdown and intensifying competition with rivals
- Risk of fluctuating demand for rolls and molds depending on capital investment trends in the steel industry
- Risk of fluctuating demand for aluminum alloy castings for semiconductor manufacturing equipment (Koguchi Alloy Casting Co., Ltd.)
- Risk of earnings pressure from soaring raw material and energy costs
- Risk of continued weakness in roll orders for domestic blast furnace makers and exports
