Business
Yamax Corporation, founded in 1963 and headquartered in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, is a manufacturer of secondary concrete products. The group, which includes three consolidated subsidiaries, operates two core businesses: Civil Engineering Cement Products (road products, landscape products, etc.) and Architectural Cement Products (PCa Floors, Beams, Columns, Balconies, etc.), and also engages in real estate related business. Its main customers are public works ordering parties such as national and local governments and the Ministry of Defense, as well as private construction companies. The company operates manufacturing and sales sites across Kyushu, Okinawa, Kanto, and Tohoku, contributing to labor savings and efficiency improvements at construction sites through the spread of precast construction methods. It is listed on the Standard Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Business Model
The core business model is a manufacture-and-sell approach in which secondary concrete products are manufactured at the company's own factories, with orders secured through design-integrated sales activities (having the company's own products adopted into specifications). For civil engineering products, a forecast-based production and inventory sales model is combined with a build-to-order model for architectural products. The company also has a mechanism whereby, through technical assistance agreements, it licenses construction methods and formwork to other companies in the same industry nationwide, earning revenue from component sales without royalties. Raising the proportion of in-house manufactured products is key to improving profit margins.
Company Strengths
The company holds proprietary construction methods (TSKJ method, YPJ method, etc.) for the precast conversion of large concrete structures, and has entered into technical assistance agreements with over 30 companies nationwide. The number and value of design-embedded projects have grown substantially in recent years, and the company has built an order pipeline expected to lead to full-scale orders spanning multiple years going forward.
Consolidated ROE for FY2026 (ending March 2026) reached 22.0%, far exceeding the 10% target, while the operating margin achieved 11.2% (operating profit of ¥2,918 million on net sales of ¥26,148 million). This represents an improvement of approximately 7.8 percentage points from the 3.4% operating margin in FY2022 (ended March 2022) over four years, reflecting the results of increasing the proportion of in-house manufactured products, price pass-through, and cost reduction activities.
The company operates multiple plants in Shimabara, Matsubase, Ogawa, Nagasu, Seta, Hitoyoshi, Sasebo, and Saitama, along with a broad network of locations including the newly established South Kyushu Sales Department in Miyazaki Prefecture. Dedicated "Defense Teams" handling projects related to the Ministry of Defense have been deployed across all business areas, establishing a system for gathering highly reliable information.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Revenue increased 65.8% over five fiscal periods, from ¥15,771 million in FY2022 (ended March 2022) to ¥26,148 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Operating profit expanded 5.4-fold over the same period, from ¥536 million to ¥2,918 million. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the company continued to post higher revenue and profit, with revenue up 11.4% year on year and operating profit up 6.6%, though the revenue growth rate decelerated from 12.8% in the prior period. Architectural Cement Products drove overall performance by capturing a large-scale project in the Okinawa region (up 35.7% year on year), while external factors such as persistently high raw material and materials prices and rising wages pushed up costs, slightly compressing margins, with the operating margin declining modestly from 11.7% to 11.2%. For FY2027 (ending March 2027), the company forecasts lower revenue and profit (revenue of ¥23,900 million, operating profit of ¥2,790 million) due to a pullback following the large-scale project, among other factors.
Growth Strategy
Pursuing sustainable growth through expanding demand for precast construction methods, strengthening defense-related business, and securing multi-year orders for architectural PCa projects
Amid labor shortages in the construction industry and work-style reform initiatives, demand for precast construction methods is on an expanding trend. Leveraging its technical proposal capabilities related to precasting large concrete structures, the company aims to build up the number and value of design-integrated projects, with full-scale ordering expected to begin in the second half of the next fiscal year and continue over multiple years. The company will also focus on expanding sales of small and medium-sized general products to diversify its revenue base.
The "Defense Team" organized in the previous fiscal year has been deployed across all business areas, establishing a system to reliably capture demand for the development of Ministry of Defense-related facilities. The Ministry of Defense's initial FY2026 budget increased 3.9% year on year, and the company will strengthen its project response capabilities in the Kyushu, Okinawa, Kanto, and Tohoku areas. Through collaboration with the Technology Division and manufacturing departments, the company will achieve stable supply of high-quality products.
The company will capture, over multiple years, semiconductor-related projects and redevelopment projects in the Kyushu region (to accelerate from the second half of the fiscal year onward), Ministry of Defense-related and hotel construction projects in Okinawa, and increasing demand for condominium construction in the Kanto region. By selectively accepting orders for optimal projects based on a comprehensive assessment of profitability and manufacturing efficiency, the company aims to reduce its outsourcing ratio and improve profit margins.
In FY2026 (ending March 2026), some projects were pushed back to the following fiscal period due to prolonged administrative procedures and other factors, resulting in an operating loss of ¥26 million. In the next fiscal period, the company aims to strengthen its revenue base and expand its business domain through the introduction of the non-face-to-face viewing system "Unmanned Model House," full-scale entry into the used housing resale business, and active acceptance of orders for large-scale renovation projects.
