Business Details
Manufactures and sells adhesives for industrial, household, construction, and civil engineering applications, repair materials, sealants, wallcovering adhesives, waxes, and adhesive tapes. Domestically operated by the Company itself, Minakuchi Chemical Industry, Sunrise, Wallbond Industry, and others; overseas operations are based in China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Covers the housing-related, industrial materials, construction, and civil engineering fields, and is the largest segment, accounting for approximately 54% of consolidated net sales.
Recent Overview
Industrial materials field saw increased sales, but operating profit declined 2.1% year on year due to sluggish housing-related and sealant sales
In the Bond segment for FY2026 (ending March 2026), net sales were ¥74,315 million (up 0.6% year on year), and operating profit was ¥6,760 million (down 2.1% year on year). In the industrial materials field, expanded sales of elastic adhesives for automobiles and electronic components contributed to increased sales, while in the housing-related field, existing products were sluggish due to a decline in new housing starts caused by a rebound from front-loaded demand following the revision of the Building Standards Act. In the construction and civil engineering field, a decline in sales volume of construction sealants weighed on results. The Company continues capital investment aimed at long-term growth, including the establishment of a new water-based adhesive manufacturing facility at the Tochigi Plant.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Expansion of new customer development for elastic adhesives for automobiles and electronic components (industrial materials field)
- Focus on product development for non-residential fields (electronics and automotive industries) and strengthened new customer development activities
- Increased production capacity through establishment of a new water-based adhesive manufacturing facility at the Tochigi Plant
- Steady demand for repair and renovation in the existing building stock market (buildings, condominiums, etc.) and infrastructure market
- Focus on growth areas and active capital investment based on the Medium-Term Management Plan 2027
Risks
- Continued decline in the housing-related field due to sustained decrease in new housing starts (limited prospects for housing demand recovery given rising interest rates and construction costs)
- Decline in sales volume of construction sealants
- Sluggish growth in sales to home centers and convenience stores in the household products field
- Risk of rising manufacturing costs due to soaring raw material and resource prices
- Uncertainty over the economic outlook due to expanding geopolitical risks such as the worsening situation in the Middle East
