Business

Atect Corporation is a manufacturing group listed on the TSE Standard market, headquartered in Higashi-Omi City, Shiga Prefecture. The group comprises three consolidated subsidiaries (Atect Engineering Co., Ltd., Atect Korea Co., Ltd., and An Tai Ke Technology Co., Ltd.) and operates three business segments built around its core technology of "control of resin properties and biological substances." These are: (1) the Semiconductor Materials Business (net sales of ¥1,165 million), which manufactures and sells Spacer Tape (Embossed, Molded, Flat Type) for FPD driver LSIs; (2) the Sanitary Testing Equipment Business (net sales of ¥1,928 million), which manufactures and sells culture media and containers for microorganism testing to food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics manufacturers, among others; and (3) the PIM Business (net sales of ¥263 million), which manufactures and sells precision metal and ceramic components for automobiles and industrial equipment using powder injection molding (PIM) technology. Major customers span electronic component manufacturers, food manufacturers, clinical testing companies, pharmaceutical companies, and others.

Business Model

Each business generally adopts a manufacturing-and-direct-sales model, selling products directly to customers. The Semiconductor Materials Business manufactures Spacer Tape under a two-site production system in Japan and South Korea and sells it directly to electronic component makers. The Sanitary Testing Equipment Business combines in-house manufactured products with purchased goods and sells directly to food, pharmaceutical, and hospital customers. The PIM Business manufactures precision components from hard-to-process materials using powder injection molding and sells them directly to automotive and industrial equipment makers. The revenue diversification across these three businesses provides a structure that mitigates dependence on any specific market.

Company Strengths

Sales in the Sanitary Testing Equipment Business reached ¥1,928 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026), up 4.8% year on year, marking a consecutive record high since the company's founding. Operating profit in this segment was ¥232 million (up 72.5% year on year), with a segment operating margin reaching approximately 12%. Amid the ongoing expansion of the simplified microorganism detection medium market driven by labor shortages in food industry inspection departments, the company's product development capability—expanding the product line of its in-house developed 'aS-Medium' (Simplified Microorganism Detection Medium) with the addition of 'CC' for coliform bacteria detection—to capture new demand underpins its earnings base.

The Semiconductor Materials Business has established a two-site production system in Japan and Korea (Atect Korea Co., Ltd.), ensuring supply stability against fluctuations in LCD panel manufacturers' operating rates and geopolitical risks. Sales volume in FY2026 (ending March 2026) remained stable at 66.53 million meters, order intake increased 108.6% year on year to ¥1,175 million, and the order backlog was maintained at 107.8% year on year. This two-site structure forms a company-specific supply chain advantage that is difficult for competitors to replicate in a short period of time.

Sales in the PIM Business reached ¥263 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026), up 23.3% year on year, marking a record high since the company's founding. Orders for Automotive Turbo Components, Ceramic Components for CMOS Sensors, and bearing components remained solid throughout the fiscal year. The operating loss narrowed to ¥129 million (from ¥145 million in the previous period), and the annual securities report notes that efforts to improve yield, reduce costs, and enhance production efficiency have steadily contributed to this improvement.

ENVALITH's Perspective

Operating profit for FY2026 (ending March 2026) recovered sharply to ¥204 million (up 154.0% YoY), and the operating margin improved from 2.5% to 6.1%. Growth was driven by the Sanitary Testing Equipment Business, which posted operating profit of ¥232 million (up 72.5% YoY), and the Semiconductor Materials Business, which posted ¥102 million (up 21.3% YoY). Meanwhile, the PIM Business continued to record an operating loss of ¥129 million, and the path to profitability remains unclear. If the PIM Business loss is resolved, there is room for further improvement in overall company profitability, but it is expected to take time to establish mass-production technology.

The consolidated earnings forecast for FY2027 (ending March 2027) calls for net sales of ¥3,600 million (up 7.2% YoY), operating profit of ¥210 million (up 2.5% YoY), and net income of ¥120 million (down 15.3% YoY), indicating higher revenue but lower profit. The decline in net income is presumed to be mainly attributable to the normalization of corporate taxes and other items. Externally, uncertainty over U.S. trade policy, elevated raw material prices stemming from the situation in the Middle East, and rising energy costs are expected to continue to weigh on profits, with the key factors for achieving the forecast being the persistently high level of PET film prices in the Semiconductor Materials Business and material cost trends in the Sanitary Testing Equipment Business.

Against total assets of ¥4,695 million at the end of FY2026 (ending March 2026), interest-bearing debt stood at a high combined level of ¥2,239 million, consisting of short-term borrowings of ¥500 million, current portion of long-term borrowings due within one year of ¥672 million, and long-term borrowings of ¥1,067 million. While the equity ratio has been trending upward, improving to 38.9% (from 36.6% in the previous period), cash flow management still warrants close attention, as expenditures from financing activities (loan repayments, etc.) amounted to ¥121 million against operating cash flow of ¥273 million. The balance of cash and cash equivalents at period-end was ¥315 million, up ¥20 million YoY, indicating that near-term liquidity has been secured.

Growth Strategy

Pursuing growth through three pillars: expansion of new products in Sanitary Testing Equipment, sales development outside the FPD industry, and profitability improvement in the PIM Business

Following the general bacteria detection product 'AC', sales of the coliform bacteria detection product 'CC' have commenced. Against the backdrop of labor shortages in food industry inspection departments, the simplified culture medium market continues to expand year by year. By continuing to develop products by application and bacterial species and strengthening sales, the company aims to further expand the sales base of the Sanitary Testing Equipment Business.

In preparation for fluctuations caused by inventory adjustments in demand for liquid crystal panels, the company is working to develop sales channels outside the FPD (Flat Panel Display) industry. Through cost reduction efforts including the development of cost-effective Spacer Tape and optimization of personnel allocation across the two Japan-Korea sites, the company aims for a mid-to-long-term recovery in sales and improvement in profitability.

Through efforts to improve yield, reduce costs, and enhance production efficiency, the operating loss for FY2026 (ending March 2026) narrowed from ¥145 million to ¥129 million. With the key focus on embedding a culture of continuous improvement across all processes, the company continues to strengthen its foundation toward profitability, supported by stable orders for Automotive Turbo Components and high-performance components for industrial equipment.
