Business
Broadband Tower, Inc. consists of two segments: the Computer Platform Business (approximately 78% of consolidated sales) and the Media Solution Business (approximately 22% of the same). In the Computer Platform Business, the company operates urban data centers in Tokyo and Osaka, offers Cloud Solution including its proprietary cloud service "c9," and provides Data Solution centered on Dell PowerScale/Isilon and Eyeglass. In the Media Solution Business, subsidiary Japan Cablecast Co., Ltd. (JCC) provides video and information distribution platforms for cable television operators and local governments. Major customers include large enterprises such as LINE Yahoo and Nintendo, as well as cable television operators and local governments nationwide. Founded in 2000, the company is listed on the TSE Standard Market.
Business Model
In the Computer Platform Business, the company combines stock-type revenue (Data Center sales of ¥4,822 million) from leasing Data Center buildings and providing space, power, and communication lines to customers, with flow-type revenue from cloud construction and operation support (¥2,048 million) and storage equipment sales and maintenance (¥4,821 million). In the Media Solution Business, the company provides multi-channel distribution for cable TV operators (¥2,696 million) and disaster prevention DX services for local governments (¥660 million). The Data Center adopts an asset-light model (leasing model), a structure that monetizes operational capability while keeping fixed costs down.
Company Strengths
The Shin-Otemachi site has a long-term facility lease agreement running through February 2033 (with automatic renewal every two years thereafter), and the basic agreement with LINE Yahoo, originally concluded in 2003, continues to be renewed. Backed by demand for urban data centers characterized by low latency and high connectivity, the business has maintained stable operations and formed a foundation for stock-type recurring revenue.
In FY2025 (ending December 2025), the company secured a large-scale project for Nintendo involving Dell PowerScale/Isilon, driving rapid expansion in Data Solution sales to ¥4,821 million (up 86.7% year on year). Its authorized reseller status for Dell Technologies products and its exclusive domestic support framework for Superna's Eyeglass have enabled it to win large orders from major corporations.
Operating profit of the Media Solution Business in FY2025 (ending December 2025) was ¥411 million (up 81.2% year on year). In addition to cost reductions and SG&A expense reviews related to the distribution platform within the Content Platform (JC-HITS), sales of the Information Platform (JC-data / Regional Disaster Prevention DX) grew to ¥660 million (up 11.5% year on year), leading to a significant improvement in profitability.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Revenue bottomed out at ¥14,126 million in FY2022 and recovered to reach ¥15,290 million in FY2025, but the full-year forecast for FY2026 (ending March 2026) points to a decline to ¥13,400 million (down 12.4% year on year). On the other hand, 1Q FY2026 results were strong on a standalone basis, with revenue of ¥3,193 million (up 2.9% year on year), operating income of ¥224 million (up 41.0%), ordinary income of ¥226 million (up 46.0%), and quarterly net income attributable to owners of the parent of ¥130 million (up 30.7%). A reduction in selling, general and administrative expenses from ¥650 million in the same period of the previous year to ¥620 million contributed to the improvement in profit. As an external factor, expanding demand for generative AI and DX is boosting demand for Data Solution and media DX services. For the full year, upfront investments such as costs related to the Ishikari Data Center are expected to be concentrated in the second half, and consistency with the forecast of a significant decline in profit will be a key focus.
Growth Strategy
Asset-light AI data center expansion centered on the Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center, and transformation into a DX company
For the Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center, scheduled to open in autumn 2026, the company is currently providing services based on consulting operations related to commercialization. After opening, the company plans to leverage a collaboration model between an SPC (special purpose company) and partner companies to develop large-scale, diverse data center projects, including AI data centers, using an asset-light approach.
The company provides end-to-end services from design and construction to maintenance, centered on Dell PowerScale/Isilon and Eyeglass software. Performance was strong in Q1 FY2026, up 14.0% year on year, and the company will continue to expand sales of security-related products against a backdrop of growing demand for ransomware countermeasures.
Against the backdrop of local governments utilizing the "New Local Economy and Living Environment Creation Grant," orders for JC-data and regional/disaster prevention DX services surged (up 65.0% year on year in Q1 FY2026). The company will continue to strengthen sales promotion and cultivate this as a revenue pillar to offset the structural decline of Content Platform (JC-HITS).
The company continues to offer high-value-added proposals combining multi-cloud operation support (MSP) for AWS, Azure, and other platforms with SaaS-based security solutions. Cloud Solution sales in Q1 FY2026 were ¥496 million, down 1.5% year on year, remaining nearly flat and maintaining solid underlying demand.
