Business Details

The Seasonings & Foods segment consists of three product categories: seasonings, including the umami seasoning "AJI-NO-MOTO®"; Nutrition & Processed Foods such as "Knorr®"; and Solutions & Ingredients for the food service and food processing industries. In addition to Japan, the segment operates globally in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brazil, Nigeria, and other countries, accounting for approximately 59% of the Group's total sales (FY2026 (ending March 2026)), making it the largest segment. It has generated stable business profit, mainly driven by the effect of increased sales.

Recent Overview

Higher sales and profit driven by increased sales and price increases in seasonings and nutrition/processed foods; the Solutions division saw lower sales and profit.

In the Seasonings & Foods segment for FY2026 (ending March 2026), sales reached ¥936,926 million (104.6% year-on-year) and business profit reached ¥143,036 million (106.6% year-on-year), achieving both higher revenue and profit. Seasonings achieved higher revenue and profit due to increased sales in both Japan and overseas. Nutrition & Processed Foods saw significant revenue and profit growth in Japan due to price increase effects, while overseas sales increased but profit declined due to rising raw material costs and other factors. Meanwhile, Solutions & Ingredients experienced lower revenue and a significant decline in profit due to decreased sales of processing-use umami seasonings. Note that from this fiscal year, the method of allocating company-wide common costs to each segment was changed to no longer allocate them, and prior-period figures have been retroactively restated.

Growth Drivers

  • Higher revenue and profit driven by increased seasoning sales and price increase effects in both Japan and overseas markets
  • Significant revenue and profit growth in Nutrition & Processed Foods in Japan due to price increase effects
  • Revenue increase in Nutrition & Processed Foods overseas due to foreign exchange effects and increased sales
  • Deepening of global expansion (sales growth in emerging markets such as Asia, Latin America, and Africa)
  • Stable growth in business profit mainly driven by the effect of increased sales (business profit margin of approximately 15.3% in FY2026 (ending March 2026))

Risks

  • Risk of declining sales of processing-use umami seasonings in Solutions & Ingredients
  • Foreign exchange translation risk in overseas operations (impact of lower revenue and profit when the yen appreciates)
  • Risk of profit pressure from rising raw material costs (already materializing in the overseas Nutrition & Processed Foods business)
  • Risk of declining profit margins due to increased strategic expenses (marketing investments, etc.)
  • Risk of rising raw material and fuel prices and increased logistics costs due to escalating tensions in the Middle East
