Business Details
This segment is handled by DyDo DRINCO, Inc. and its group companies. Vending machines serve as the primary sales channel, with manufacturing and logistics outsourced under a fabless model. In addition to soft drinks such as coffee, tea-based beverages, and carbonated drinks, the segment also operates a mail-order supplement channel. Due to lower depreciation expenses resulting from the impairment loss recorded in FY2026 (ending January 2026) and profitability improvement measures, segment loss narrowed significantly in the first quarter of FY2027 (ending January 2027).
Recent Overview
Segment loss improved by ¥2,201 million year on year due to the impairment effect and profitability improvement measures
In the first quarter of FY2027 (ending January 2027) (January 21, 2026 to April 20, 2026), the Domestic Beverage Business recorded net sales of ¥31,731 million (down 2.0% year on year) and a segment loss of ¥185 million (compared with a loss of ¥2,386 million in the same period of the previous year). The loss narrowed significantly, aided by lower depreciation expenses following the impairment loss recorded in FY2026 (ending January 2026) and cost containment from profitability improvement measures. On the other hand, sales volume declined and sales fell due to consumer thrift and a widening price gap in the vending machine channel. Profit at the mail-order supplement business also declined as advertising investment was restored. The full-year forecast anticipates a return to profitability with segment profit of ¥5,200 million.
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Improved profitability from FY2027 (ending January 2027) onward due to lower depreciation expenses following the impairment loss recorded in FY2026 (ending January 2026)
- Building a leaner vending machine network through the strategic withdrawal of unprofitable machines and new installations at favorable locations
- Improved vending machine operation productivity through continuous refinement of Smart Operation
- Addressing consumer thrift through the expansion of the price-competitive "Heart Price" product lineup
- Improved sales per vending machine through stronger sales of high-profitability soft drinks such as carbonated beverages
- Transformation of the profit structure through a comprehensive review of costs, from raw materials to sales promotion expenses
Risks
- Decline in vending machine sales volume due to continued consumer thrift and price revisions by beverage manufacturers
- Weakening competitiveness from a widening price gap between the vending machine channel and other channels (e.g., convenience stores)
- Pressure on gross profit from rising costs of raw materials, packaging materials, and labor
- Risk of delay in rebuilding the customer base due to declining subscription customers in the mail-order supplement channel
- Downward pressure on net sales from a declining number of operating vending machines under a profitability-focused deployment policy
- Risk of failing to achieve the profitability recovery plan by the final year of the Mid-Term Management Plan 2026 (FY2027, ending January 2027)
