Business
JK Holdings Corporation is a pure holding company overseeing a group of 51 subsidiaries and 8 affiliated companies engaged in housing materials distribution. Its business consists of four segments: (1) wholesale of plywood, building materials, and housing equipment (General Building Materials Wholesale Business), (2) manufacturing and sale of softwood plywood, LVL, and other products (Plywood Manufacturing and Wood Processing Business), (3) retail sale of building materials and housing equipment (General Building Materials Retail Business), and (4) construction, logistics, franchising, and other operations (Others). Its main customers are housing construction-related businesses such as building materials retailers and construction contractors. Under its corporate philosophy of "creating a comfortable and enriching living environment," the company is responsible for the stable supply of housing materials through its nationwide network of locations. Founded in 1949, the company is listed on the Standard Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Business Model
The core comprehensive building materials wholesale business (approximately 83% of net sales) generates the majority of revenue by wholesaling plywood, building materials, and housing equipment procured from building materials manufacturers to building materials retailers, construction contractors, and others. The company employs a vertically integrated distribution model combining this with retail and manufacturing businesses, and pursues the expansion of regional bases through M&A alongside rationalization through organizational restructuring in parallel. It also operates peripheral services such as franchise and logistics businesses, building long-term mutually beneficial relationships with customers by supporting the business continuity of business partners.
Company Strengths
The group, comprising 51 subsidiaries and 8 affiliated companies, operates wholesale, retail, manufacturing, logistics, and franchise businesses in an integrated manner, with sales outlets deployed nationwide. Consolidated net sales for FY2026 (ending March 2026) are projected at ¥398,820 million, maintaining a level above that of FY2022 (ending March 2022) (¥376,120 million), which benefited from special wood shock demand. The stable sales scale supported by this wide-area network forms the foundation of the company's competitive advantage.
The company actively pursues M&A every fiscal year, expanding its group network while capturing regional business succession needs. Most recently, it made Taiheiyo Kenzai Co., Ltd. a subsidiary in May 2024, and The Daiwa Bikeservice Co., Ltd. a subsidiary in January 2025. In November 2025, Key Tec took over the large cross-section laminated timber business and the polyester-decorative board sales business, among other achievements demonstrating the company's track record of expanding its business domain through M&A.
The company has completed the introduction of its new core system "ASView" at all sales offices of its core subsidiary Japan Kenzai Co., Ltd. and at some other subsidiaries, establishing a foundation for operational efficiency and logistics sophistication utilizing DX. Going forward, the company plans to sequentially roll out the system to other subsidiaries and expand its functionality, positioning it as a proprietary IT infrastructure aimed at reducing group-wide SG&A expenses and improving logistics efficiency.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Revenue rose from ¥376,120 million in FY2022 (ended March 2022) to a peak of ¥407,022 million in FY2023 (ended March 2023), then fell back to ¥388,910 million in FY2024 (ended March 2024), before showing a gradual recovery to ¥393,258 million in FY2025 (ended March 2025) and ¥398,820 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Operating profit, on the other hand, peaked at ¥12,475 million in FY2022 (ended March 2022) and has declined for five consecutive periods, falling to ¥6,434 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026), less than half its peak level. External factors—weak lumber and plywood market conditions, rising procurement costs from higher prices of building materials and housing equipment, and increases in labor and freight costs—have squeezed profits. Net income also continued to decline, reaching ¥4,033 million (down 5.8% year on year). For FY2027 (ending March 2027), the company forecasts revenue of ¥407,000 million, operating profit of ¥6,600 million, and net income of ¥4,200 million, anticipating a turnaround in profitability. However, given the company's track record of falling short of past plans, the likelihood of achieving these targets warrants careful scrutiny.
Growth Strategy
Aiming for medium-term earnings recovery through expanding building materials distribution share and deepening M&A and adjacent businesses
A three-year plan for FY2025-FY2027 built on four pillars: 'strengthening core businesses,' 'expanding and deepening business domains,' 'building a sustainable management foundation,' and 'practicing human capital management.' In the first year, FY2026 (ending March 2026), various measures were implemented to expand market share in the wooden building materials wholesale market through group synergies, but profit fell short of plan.
The company actively pursues M&A every fiscal year to address business succession needs across regions. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), it took over the large cross-section laminated wood business from Timberham through a company split in November 2025, and also acquired a polyester-coated board sales business through M&A. In parallel, organizational restructuring was carried out to rationalize group management, including the consolidation of Yamada Mokuzai's Toyama sales office and the absorption-type merger of Sakata Kenzai into Bulken Higashi Nihon.
KeyTec's LVL business shifted to a trend of increasing revenue and profit through efforts in both manufacturing and sales. Synergies with the large cross-section laminated wood and polyester-coated board businesses acquired in November 2025 helped narrow losses (from a loss of ¥883 million in FY2025 (ended March 2025) to a loss of ¥621 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026)). Amid signs that the domestic plywood market has bottomed out, recovery in selling prices and sales volume is expected, but profitability has not yet been achieved.
Based on the policy announced in May 2025, the company has adopted a progressive dividend system (dividend payout ratio of 30% or more during the medium-term plan period, with a DOE target of 3% in the final year). In FY2026 (ending March 2026), a dividend of ¥55 per share (payout ratio of 36.9%) was implemented, an increase of ¥10 year-on-year. The company acquired ¥2,937 million in treasury shares, raising the treasury share ratio to approximately 15.5% at fiscal year-end. For FY2027 (ending March 2027), a dividend of ¥60 per share (payout ratio forecast at 37.5%) is planned.
The company continues to promote operational efficiency through DX in order to further increase customer touchpoints. Selling, general and administrative expenses have been on an upward trend, reaching ¥41,588 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026) (up 3.7% year-on-year), making the realization of SG&A cost reduction effects through DX an important measure for future profit improvement.
