Business

DAIKEN MEDICAL CO.,LTD. is a research and development-oriented medical device manufacturer founded in 1968, engaged in the consistent planning, development, manufacturing, and sale of products related to anesthesia and in-hospital infection prevention. Its main products include the Fit Fix suction unit for operating rooms, the disposable continuous infusion devices Syrinjector and Balloonjector, and the Coordec Amy PCA equipped with a micropump. Customers range from large acute-care hospitals to small and medium-sized hospitals, chronic-care hospitals, and home medical care institutions. The company handles all processes in-house, from basic research through manufacturing and sales, and maintains a quality control system based on the ISO standard (EN ISO 13485:2016). It is an independent single-segment company with no parent company or subsidiaries.

Business Model

The company uncovers latent needs through close relationships with medical professionals and commercializes them using proprietary technology, including patents. It manages quality and cost by internalizing research, development, manufacturing, and sales. Its core products, Fit Fix (an aspirator) and Syrinjector (an injector), are disposable products that capture ongoing consumable demand linked to the number of surgical procedures. The company aims for gross profit margin and ordinary profit margin targets of 20%, pursuing profitability-focused management.

Company Strengths

Fit Fix has maintained the top share in the operating room suction device market for over 30 years since its launch in 1990. Net sales related to suction devices for FY2026 (ending March 2026) were ¥6,529 million (up 2.1% year on year), continuing stable growth. Building on its high share in acute-care hospitals with 300 or more beds, the company is also expanding into small and medium-sized hospitals and chronic-care hospitals, and the depth of its customer base serves as a barrier to entry for competitors.

The company has accumulated core technologies such as blood coagulation technology, mechatronics technology, and precision processing technology (MEMS), and has institutionalized concurrent design and manufacturing development. There are 20 personnel in the R&D department, and R&D expenses for FY2026 (ending March 2026) were ¥368 million. The company has built a technology development framework through industry-academia-government collaboration, including a track record of adoption in AMED's Medical-Engineering Collaboration Commercialization Promotion Program and joint research with Okayama University and Kawasaki Medical School.

Coordec Amy PCA, an infusion device equipped with a micropump launched in 2021, has expanded its adoption beyond acute-care medical institutions into home healthcare, painless childbirth, and obstetrics fields. Net sales related to infusion devices for FY2026 (ending March 2026) were ¥2,317 million (up 4.5% year on year), driving growth. A derivative product for chemotherapy (CAN Project) has already undergone regulatory filing in FY2024, with launch planned for the second half of FY2026, and diversification of the product line is progressing.

ENVALITH's Perspective

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), revenue increased by 3.4%, but operating profit declined 15.5% year-on-year to ¥1,277 million, with operating margin falling to 12.4% (from 15.2% in the previous period). Rising material costs (cost of products manufactured +10.5% for the period), higher personnel expenses, and increased R&D spending occurred simultaneously, and the company was unable to fully absorb these against the revenue increase. The forecast for FY2027 (ending March 2026... wait) projects operating profit of ¥840 million (down 34.3% year-on-year), indicating a further profit decline, raising concerns about prolonged cost pressure.

Cash flow from operating activities in FY2026 (ending March 2026) decreased significantly to ¥567 million from ¥1,121 million in the previous period. A decrease of ¥350 million in trade payables (mainly due to a ¥371 million decline in electronically recorded obligations) led to a cash outflow. In investing activities, the company spent ¥327 million on acquisition of property, plant and equipment, while financing activities included dividend payments of ¥660 million and repayment of long-term borrowings of ¥488 million, occurring concurrently. Cash and cash equivalents remained ample at ¥2,778 million, but the shrinking trend in free cash flow warrants close monitoring.

The annual dividend per share for FY2026 (ending March 2026) was maintained at ¥20 (dividend payout ratio of 62.3%). However, for the FY2027 (ending March 2026... ) forecast, against a projected net income of ¥590 million (down 36.1% year-on-year), the company plans to maintain the annual dividend at ¥20, which would bring the projected payout ratio to 97.4%. Amid an external environment of rising raw material costs and continued yen depreciation due to Middle East tensions, there is a risk that the dividend policy will need to be reviewed if profit levels do not recover.

Growth Strategy

Pursuing growth along three axes: deepening penetration of existing products, expanding sales of Coordec Amy PCA, and expanding into Europe

For Coordec Amy PCA, which has been well received in medical settings, the company plans to drive sales expansion by focusing on expanded sales to acute-care medical institutions in addition to the home-care market. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), sales of infusion device-related products grew steadily, up +4.5% year on year.

The company is advancing its entry into the European market while recording expenses related to obtaining European Medical Device Regulation (MDR) certification as upfront investment. Overseas sales still account for a low proportion of total sales at present, but this is positioned as a foundation for medium- to long-term revenue diversification.

The company continues to invest in supply chain sophistication in response to rising manufacturing costs. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), it spent ¥327 million on acquisition of property, plant and equipment, with construction in progress increasing from ¥173 million to ¥320 million. The company aims to build a cost-competitive production structure.

The company plans to continue, without restraint, investment in human capital such as staff increases and wage hikes, as well as R&D investment aimed at expanding its business domains. While this will be a factor increasing selling, general and administrative expenses in the short term, the company aims to strengthen its capability to develop original products and maintain competitive advantage through securing talent.
