SUNDAY CO..,LTD.
7450・Standard Market・Retail Trade
Business
Sunday Co., Ltd. was founded in 1975 in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, and operates 112 home center stores across the six Tohoku prefectures (Aomori, Iwate, Akita, Miyagi, Yamagata, and Fukushima), functioning as a community-based retailer. As a consolidated subsidiary of Aeon Co., Ltd., the company sells housing and lifestyle-related products to general consumers, centered on DIY goods, household goods, and car and leisure products, while also operating a variety of formats including the pet specialty store "Zoomore", the delivery and installation service "SUN Kyubin", and the professional shop "DayPRO". The company is also responsible for sales of DIY, car, and leisure-related products at supercenters operated by the Aeon Group in the Tohoku region. Its main customers span a broad range, including general consumers, farmers, and professional craftsmen in the Tohoku region.
Business Model
Product sales by the Home Center Business (DIY, household goods, car and leisure goods) account for nearly the entirety of the ¥46,587 million in net sales. Car and leisure goods form the largest segment, at roughly 46% of sales. Cost control is managed through optimization of suppliers and delivery routes, aiming to maintain gross margin. In addition, "other operating revenue" of ¥303 million—including Pet Specialty Store Zoomore, SUN Kyubin (Delivery & Installation Service), and real estate rental income—also functions as a revenue source.
Company Strengths
Since its founding in 1975, the company has expanded to 112 stores across the six Tohoku prefectures of Aomori, Iwate, Akita, Miyagi, Yamagata, and Fukushima (as of February 28, 2025). Aomori Prefecture is its largest base with net sales of ¥18,601 million, and its product lineup and store network tailored to regional demand form a barrier to competitive entry.
Since 2006, as a consolidated subsidiary of AEON CO., LTD., the company has leveraged the group's purchasing power, logistics infrastructure, and its proprietary point card "Sunday Card," which incorporates the WAON electronic money function. It also supplies DIY, car, and leisure products to AEON Super Center stores, playing a role within the group.
Pet Specialty Store Zoomore achieved year-on-year growth in both net sales and operating profit in FY2025 (ended February 2025) through its highly specialized product lineup and events. SUN Kyubin (Delivery & Installation Service), staffed by holders of DIY advisor qualifications, achieved year-on-year growth in both the number of orders received and net sales, capturing demand in aging and depopulating areas.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Revenue peaked at ¥52,100 million in FY2021 and had declined for five consecutive fiscal years, but the nine-month cumulative figure for the fiscal year ending February 2026 rose slightly to ¥36,163 million (+1.5% year on year). As an external factor, while heightened cost-consciousness amid rising prices continued to characterize the market environment, sales were boosted by increased demand for snow removal following last year's heavy snowfall and increased demand for air conditioning due to high temperatures. Operating profit turned positive on a nine-month cumulative basis at ¥15 million (versus a loss of ¥55 million in the same period the previous year). However, the company recorded extraordinary losses of ¥139 million, including a store closure loss of ¥100 million, resulting in a quarterly net loss of ¥42 million (a significant improvement from a loss of ¥227 million in the same period the previous year). The full-year forecast remains unchanged at revenue of ¥47,800 million, operating profit of ¥300 million, and net income of ¥10 million.
