LOBTEX CO., LTD.
5969・Standard Market・Metal Products
Business
Robtex was founded in 1923 and is headquartered in Higashiosaka City, Osaka Prefecture, as a specialist manufacturer of tools and fasteners. In its Metal Products business (approximately 96% of net sales), the company manufactures and sells Hand Tools (Work Tools) such as monkey wrenches, Fastening Tools including rivet tools, industrial and construction Fastening Tools & Industrial Fasteners, Electrical Installation Tools, Cutting Tools, and other products. Production is handled by subsidiary Tottori Lobster Tool Co., Ltd., and sales are coordinated together with group company Robtex Fastening System Co., Ltd. Major customers are tool trading companies such as TRUSCO NAKAYAMA CORPORATION (23.5% of net sales) and YAMAZEN CORPORATION (17.2%). In the remaining Leisure business, subsidiary Rob Ace Co., Ltd. operates a Golf Driving Range, contributing to earnings with a high profit margin.
Business Model
The headquarters holds a fabless function overseeing R&D, quality assurance, and sales planning, while manufacturing is consolidated at Tottori Robustertool Co., Ltd. to pursue production efficiency. Sales rely primarily on major tool trading companies such as TRUSCO NAKAYAMA and YAMAZEN as key channels, and in the fastening field, a specialized trading company route via Lobtex Fastening Systems Co., Ltd. is also utilized. The Leisure business operates on an asset-utilization model in which the headquarters owns the land and facilities and leases them to subsidiaries, achieving a high profit margin of approximately 47%.
Company Strengths
The Lobster Brand, used since 1929 (Showa 4), has a history of approximately 100 years with the monkey wrench as its flagship product. It has become widely established among tool trading companies and retailers both domestically and overseas, and the annual securities report notes that the rollout of the new "J-CRAFT99" series is also driving expansion of new retail accounts both in Japan and abroad.
Through collaboration among three companies—the head office (development and quality assurance), Tottori Robster Tool Co., Ltd. (manufacturing), and Robtex Fastening System Co., Ltd. (specialized fastener sales)—the group has built a system that completes everything from development to manufacturing, sales, and after-sales service within the group. In June 2024, Robtex Fastening System Co., Ltd. was made a wholly owned subsidiary, further strengthening this collaboration.
The Leisure segment, which operates Golf Driving Ranges, is a highly profitable segment, posting segment profit of ¥114 million (a profit margin of approximately 47%) against sales of ¥243 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). While the profit margin of the Metal Products segment remains at just 1.2%, the Leisure segment accounts for approximately 63% of the company's total operating profit of ¥182 million, contributing significantly to earnings stability.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
Revenue continued to decline after peaking at ¥6,100 million in FY2022 (ended March 2022), but turned slightly upward in FY2026 (ending March 2026) to ¥5,711 million (up 0.1% year on year), showing signs of bottoming out. On the other hand, operating profit has worsened for four consecutive periods, from ¥485 million in FY2023 (ended March 2023) to ¥182 million in FY2026 (ending March 2026). Profit was squeezed by a rise in the cost-of-sales ratio due to inventory valuation expenses arising from new items, as well as an increase in SG&A expenses (salaries and allowances). External factors such as soaring material prices, sluggish market conditions in South Korea, and uncertainty over US tariff policy have also been headwinds. Net income recovered to ¥122 million as the impact of the prior reversal of deferred tax assets faded, but profitability on an operating profit basis remains at a low level.
Growth Strategy
Aiming for earnings recovery through profitability enhancement under the three-division structure and by capturing demand for labor-saving solutions and new products
The company is expanding new retail outlets domestically and overseas, centered on the Hand Tools business's new series "J-CRAFT99." It aims to enhance the brand strength of "Ebijirushi Kogu" (Shrimp Brand Tools) and recover sales channels in overseas markets (despite headwinds from the sluggish South Korean market). Progress in expanding new retail outlets both domestically and internationally has been confirmed in FY2026 (ending March 2026).
The company is promoting stronger sales of riveting automatic machines/systems and construction fasteners aimed at labor-saving needs. Through the conversion of Lobtex Fastening System Co., Ltd. into a wholly owned subsidiary (June 2024), a structure focused on sales channel expansion has been established. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), projects are trending upward mainly in Japan and are steadily translating into orders.
The company is thoroughly improving business performance across its three divisions—New Business Development, Hand Tools, and Fastening—addressing the management challenges of "streamlining operations" and "strengthening profitability." It is also promoting improved production efficiency through closer collaboration with Tottori Lobster Tool Co., Ltd. However, results remain limited, with operating profit in FY2026 (ending March 2026) still down 11.5% year on year.
