Business
TO Books Co., Ltd. operates the IP Creation & Development Business (Single Segment) under its management philosophy of "delivering more stories," primarily discovering works from WEB novel submission sites and handling everything from book publication to comicalization, animation, stage adaptation, merchandise development, and event management. Since its establishment in 2014, the company has expanded its number of major IPs from 66 in FY2023 (ending April 2023) to 81 in FY2025 (ending April 2025), led by titles such as "Ascendance of a Bookworm." While Books (Light Novels, Comics, Paperbacks, etc.) serve as its revenue foundation, the company has a structure in which it proactively captures anime-related revenue as a lead production committee member (33.3% ratio in FY2025 (ending April 2025)). Major customers include e-book platforms (Media Do, LINE Digital Frontier, Kakao Piccoma, NTT Solmare) as well as bookstores and general consumers. It is an emerging IP production company that listed on the TSE Standard Market in February 2026.
Business Model
By combining data such as page views and ratings of web novels with editorial evaluations, the company discovers and turns IP into books, then expands the reader base through comicalization. IPs with favorable sales trends are further developed into Drama CDs, Audiobooks, Stage Plays, and TV Anime, with the company capturing revenue directly as the lead production committee member. Through the Official Online Store and Corona EX, the company maintains direct contact with fans and utilizes purchase data to inform subsequent development decisions. The structure combines book royalties, e-book distribution revenue, anime production revenue, merchandise sales, and event revenue, enhancing revenue sustainability through long-term (evergreen-type) IP cultivation.
Company Strengths
IPs with e-book sales exceeding ¥10 million over a 12-month period are defined as key IPs, and the number expanded from 66 in FY2023 (ending April 2023) to 81 in FY2025 (ending April 2025). Rather than relying on one-off hits, the company continues to build up IPs with sustained readership bases, ensuring stability and diversity of earnings. Honzuki no Gekokujo achieved Hall of Fame status in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2023.
The company has in-house editorial departments, an audio production team, and staff dedicated to anime/stage play/film production, enabling agile decision-making with reduced reliance on external production companies. In-house audio production allows self-completed casting of popular voice actors, forming a pathway from drama CDs and audiobooks to anime and stage play development. This serves as a differentiating factor from conventional publishers.
In FY2025 (ending April 2025), the ratio of the company's own IP anime works in which it served as the lead company (shukanji) of the production committee was 33.3%. By leading revenue and cost planning, building the production framework, and managing progress as the lead company, the company has established a structure that allows it to directly benefit from IP value enhancement, compared to simple licensing-out. The TV anime Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu (Water-Attribute Magician) achieved the No. 1 ranking on 12 major video streaming sites, and its effect of driving sales of the original books and comics has been confirmed.
ENVALITH's Perspective
Performance Trend
In FY2026 (ending April 2026), revenue reached ¥11,795 million (up 25.1% year on year), operating profit reached ¥1,984 million (up 72.7%), and net income reached ¥1,310 million (up 69.0%), marking a sharp recovery from the significant profit decline in the prior period. As an external factor, the electronic publishing market's expansion trend, up 2.7% year on year, provided a tailwind for the light novel and comics segment. The main driver was the TV anime "Suizokusei no Mahoutsukai," which ranked No. 1 across 12 major video streaming sites and significantly boosted sales of the original books and comics. Gross profit margin improved to 72.2% (from 68.6% in the prior period). For FY2027 (ending April 2027), revenue is projected at ¥12,500 million (up 6.0%) and operating profit at ¥1,900 million (down 4.3%), representing a revenue increase alongside a profit decline. The structural profit fluctuations linked to the timing of anime rollouts are expected to continue.
Growth Strategy
Maximizing IP value through deepened media mix strategy, launch of a new label, and expansion of real-world events
Multiple anime adaptation projects are underway, including the TV anime "Honzuki no Gekokujo ~Ryoshu no Yojo" (The Ascendance of a Bookworm: Lord's Adopted Daughter), which began airing in April 2026. Building on past track records of sales increases in original books and comics linked to broadcasts, the company aims to maximize IP value.
The new label "Celica" was launched in March 2026. The company aims to acquire a new user base distinct from its existing labels and create new IP, building a foundation for medium- to long-term business growth. Attention is needed to upfront costs during the launch phase.
A re-run of the musical "Honzuki no Gekokujo ~2026" is planned for August 2026. The company aims to expand revenue in the real event domain and increase IP awareness, while seeking synergy with print and digital book sales.
¥1,770 million was raised through the IPO in February 2026. Backed by a solid financial foundation with period-end cash of ¥4,363 million and an equity ratio of 69.6%, the company is actively pursuing investments in new IP creation, media mix expansion, and talent acquisition.
