Business Details

Building on functional ingredient research inherited from the Jintan® legacy and applying seamless capsule formulation technology, the segment offers a wide range of health-related products centered on Bifina®. Domestically, sales are conducted through mail order, retailers, and wholesalers, while overseas expansion is driven mainly through distributors in the Asia region. With "gut health" and "oral health" as the two priority themes, the company is rebuilding its earnings base by leveraging its unique strength of having both BtoB and BtoC operations.

Recent Overview

Segment loss widened due to increased advertising expenses and response to logistics structural reform

In the Consumer Business for FY2026 (ending March 2026), net sales were ¥4,724 million (down 1.3% year on year), and segment loss was ¥100 million (worsening from a loss of ¥58 million in the prior period). Advertising expenses increased significantly from ¥263 million to ¥441 million due to the concentration of promotional resources on the Choteku Series. While new customer acquisition for the core Bifina® product remained sluggish, inbound demand and the new product launch in Hong Kong supported sales. Advance investment in logistics structural reform also weighed on profitability, and FY2026 is positioned as a period for rebuilding the earnings structure.

Key Products

product
Bifina®

The core product of the Consumer Business. Sold through domestic mail-order and retail channels, with overseas expansion also being promoted mainly in the Asia region. Inbound demand has supported sales, but new customer acquisition has struggled due to the concentration of promotional resources on the Choteku Series.

product
Choteku Series

Three products, including "Tansa Fatty Acid," were launched in April 2025. Promotional resources are being concentrated to expand brand awareness, and overseas expansion has also begun, including an early launch in Hong Kong. The brand is in an early investment phase and was the main driver of increased advertising expenses in the current fiscal year.

product
Jintan® Series

A historic brand product lineup responsible for the "oral health" domain. Positioned as the origin of the company's spherical technology and material research, it underpins the brand value of the Consumer Business.

Growth Drivers

  • Accelerating market penetration of the Choteku Series and expanding sales through new customer acquisition
  • Strengthening the global expansion of the core Bifina® product (developing overseas markets mainly in the Asia region)
  • Expanding brand awareness in Asian markets, starting with the early launch of new products in Hong Kong
  • Continued capture of solid inbound demand
  • Strengthening product competitiveness through concentrated investment in the two priority areas of "gut health" and "oral health"
  • Improving group-wide product supply capacity through the operation of the new manufacturing line at the Osaka Techno Center

Risks

  • Risk of deteriorating profitability due to continued advance investment burden such as advertising expenses
  • Decline in new customer acquisition for the core Bifina® product due to concentration of promotional resources on the Choteku Series
  • Intensifying competition in the lactic acid bacteria market and others due to new entrants from major companies, including those from other industries
  • Short-term profit pressure due to increased costs associated with responding to logistics structural reform
  • Risk of downward pressure on domestic demand due to price increases and sluggish personal consumption
  • Impact on overseas expansion due to geopolitical risks (such as the situation in the Middle East)
