Business Details
This segment provides licensing, contracted operations, and cloud services for the speech synthesis engine series "AITalk®", as well as sales of the consumer speech synthesis software series "A.I.VOICE®". Customers span diverse industries including telecommunications, disaster prevention, finance, railways, gaming, and local governments. The segment also develops speech recognition technology under the "vGate®" series, expanding into new focus areas such as "vGate Aispect™", an AI sound inspection solution supporting DX in manufacturing sites. In FY2026 (ending March 2026), sales were ¥1,128 million and operating profit was ¥104 million.
Recent Overview
Integrated AI voice technology through the merger with ATR-Trek and launched new cloud services
In FY2026 (ending March 2026), sales in the Voice Business were ¥1,128 million (down 2.8% year on year), and operating profit was ¥104 million (down 2.2% year on year), representing a slight decline in both revenue and profit. While the mainstay disaster prevention and firefighting licenses performed steadily, contracted speech recording projects for NICT are expected to decline significantly from FY2027 (ending March 2027) onward. In September 2025, the company absorbed ATR-Trek through merger, consolidating its R&D structure. It also launched the new cloud services "AITalk® Koe no Shokunin Cloud Edition" and "AITalk® WebAPI". The major customer is NTT DOCOMO (sales of ¥209 million).
Key Products
Growth Drivers
- Continued medium-term demand in the disaster prevention and firefighting fields driven by projects eligible for "Emergency Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Project Bonds" (extended through fiscal year Reiwa 12)
- Expansion of the corporate customer base through new rollout of cloud/SaaS-based services (AITalk® Koe no Shokunin Cloud Edition, AITalk® WebAPI)
- Growth in the number of registered users on the consumer-oriented platform "Koestation"
- Promotion of adoption of the speech recognition and predictive maintenance product "vGate Aispect™" in manufacturing and other industries
- Unification and streamlining of R&D structure for AI voice-related technology through the merger with ATR-Trek Co., Ltd.
- Development of a voice dialogue platform utilizing LLMs (large language models)
- Steady trend in contracted audiobook and other voice content production projects
Risks
- Intensifying competition with rivals including major global companies (accelerated development of new services in the voice/dialogue field amid the spread of generative AI)
- Impact on sales from the expected significant decline in NICT-contracted speech recording projects from FY2027 (ending March 2027) onward
- Disaster prevention-related demand depends on public budgets and policy, with a rebound effect expected in FY2027 (ending March 2027) following rushed demand for "Emergency Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Project Bonds"
- Difficulty securing IT engineers with specialized knowledge (shortage of IT engineers across the software industry as a whole)
- Information security risk (risk of recurring system failures due to unauthorized external access, etc.)
