Business Details

With exterior and interior finish coating materials, floor coating materials, various adhesives, and organic microparticles as core products, this segment operates broadly across domestic and overseas construction markets as well as non-construction fields such as automotive, electronic materials, and daily goods. The company has numerous manufacturing and sales subsidiaries both domestically and overseas, conducting global operations centered on the Asia-Oceania region. Under the medium-term management plan, the company is pursuing a dual strategy of adding higher value to the construction field and making growth investments in the non-construction field.

Recent Overview

Sales declined 1.7% year on year due to the slump in the Chinese market and weakness overseas, while profit remained nearly flat

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Chemical Products segment recorded net sales of ¥136,262 million (down 1.7% year on year) and operating income (before deduction of unallocated expenses) of ¥9,330 million (down 0.0% year on year). Domestically, Adhesive Products, Construction Resin Products, and Functional Materials (Lumiart) performed well, but overseas, market sluggishness due to the prolonged real estate slump in China and weakness in urethane resin for sports shoes weighed on overall performance. Profit was maintained at roughly the same level as the prior year.

Key Products

product
Adhesive Products

Domestically, adhesives for woodworking and furniture, acrylic emulsions for textiles and paints, and hot melt adhesives for packaging performed well. Overseas, sales grew in Vietnam and New Zealand, but overall sales fell below the prior year due to the slump in the Chinese market.

product
Construction Resin Products (Jolypate, Jolyace, Tuffresin Clearguard Method, etc.)

Floor coating material "Jolyace" was weak due to the reversal of large orders received in the prior year. On the other hand, exterior and interior finish coating material "Jolypate" increased for condominium applications, and the exterior tile fall-prevention method "Tuffresin Clearguard Method" captured renovation demand from condominiums, hotels, and medical/welfare facilities, performing well. Overall, sales slightly exceeded the prior year.

product
Functional Materials (Lumiart, Organic Microparticles, etc.)

Domestically, the high-performance film for electronic materials "Lumiart" performed well, with sales exceeding the prior year. On the other hand, organic microparticles for cosmetics were weak. Overseas, urethane resin for sports shoes and other applications was weak, with sales falling below the prior year.

product
Thermoplastic Urethane Resin

Mainly developed for overseas sports shoe applications, but performance was weak in FY2026 (ending March 2026), with sales falling below the prior year.

Growth Drivers

  • Expansion of the functional materials business into non-construction fields (electronic materials, automotive) (growth of high-performance film "Lumiart")
  • Capturing demand for floor coating materials for semiconductor plants, data centers, and fuel cell plants
  • Overseas expansion of Adhesive Products in Southeast Asia (Vietnam, New Zealand, etc.)
  • Expanding sales of Construction Resin Products (Jolypate, Tuffresin Clearguard Method) driven by renovation demand from condominiums, hotels, and medical/welfare facilities
  • Improving profitability through higher value addition (promotion of the medium-term management plan "Value Creation 3000 & 300")

Risks

  • Pressure on sales and profit from intensifying price competition amid the prolonged real estate slump in China
  • Risk of profit pressure from soaring raw material prices and exchange rate fluctuations
  • Demand decline due to the shrinking domestic construction market (decrease in housing starts)
  • Heightened geopolitical risk and supply chain disruption due to U.S. trade policy and tensions in the Middle East
  • Risk of continued weak demand in overseas non-construction fields (urethane resin for sports shoes, etc.)
