Business

UNIFORM NEXT CO., LTD. (Uniform Sales Business) is a company specializing in mail-order sales of business uniforms, founded in 1994 and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (currently the Growth Market) in 2017. The company operates a group of proprietary e-commerce sites specialized in four categories—food service, medical, office, and workwear—selling products to corporate and individual customers throughout Japan. In recent years, in addition to Retail Sales (E-commerce Site), the company has been ramping up Wholesale Sales (Corporate Sales) for large corporate clients through personal sales efforts, promoting a "hybrid sales model." By consolidating its head office and logistics center in Fukui City and handling web production, marketing, customer support, logistics, and embroidery processing in-house, the company achieves high-quality service and short lead times. The business uniform market is estimated at ¥506,500 million (Yano Research Institute, "Uniform Market Yearbook 2024"), and the company covers its major categories.

Business Model

The company generates revenue through two pillars: Retail Sales, which handles small- and mid-lot orders from customers acquired via web marketing through category-specialized e-commerce sites, and Wholesale Sales (Corporate Sales), in which online and field sales teams propose solutions to large corporate clients starting from e-commerce leads. Customer success driven by the uniform management app "UniNeku® (Uniform Management App)" promotes repeat purchases (maximizing LTV). The company enhances added value through in-house embroidery and printing processing, and has a structure in which expanding order size as the proportion of corporate customers rises improves delivery cost efficiency.

Company Strengths

Web production, photography, advertising operations, call center, logistics, and Embroidery & Printing Processing Service are consolidated and handled in-house at the Fukui head office and distribution center. This has enabled a system that suppresses stockouts and supports same-day shipping, while also building a framework for rapid PDCA cycles. As a result, the company maintains the quality of customer experience that serves as a key differentiator from competitors.

In FY2025 (ending March 2025), the marketing target was clearly shifted from individuals to corporations. The average purchase price of new customers rose significantly, and Wholesale Sales (Corporate Sales) revenue expanded sharply to ¥1,314 million (up 60.8% year on year). As the proportion of corporate clients increased, the order size per transaction grew, and distribution cost efficiency, including delivery, also improved substantially.

Revenue grew for five consecutive fiscal periods, from ¥5,115 million in FY2021 (ending March 2021) to ¥9,857 million in FY2025 (ending March 2025). Although operating profit temporarily declined in FY2024 (ending March 2024), it recovered sharply in FY2025 (ending March 2025) to ¥754 million (up 68.6% year on year), with net profit for the period reaching ¥518 million (up 59.2%), and the operating profit margin improved to 7.7%.

ENVALITH's Perspective

Cumulative Q1 FY2026 results showed net sales of ¥2,056 million (up 19.8% year on year) and operating income of ¥16 million (versus an operating loss of ¥1 million in the same quarter of the previous year), achieving a swing to profit or substantial profit growth at each income stage. Achieving profitability in Q1, the off-peak season, can be evaluated as demonstrating the revenue impact of the corporate shift strategy. Progress toward the full-year forecast (net sales of ¥12,000 million, operating income of ¥900 million) stood at 17.1% for net sales and 1.9% for operating income in Q1 — the profit-side progress rate is low, but this is within expectations when seasonality is taken into account.

At the end of Q1 FY2026, merchandise inventory surged to ¥2,172 million (up ¥956 million from the end of the previous fiscal year), accounting for 35.7% of total assets of ¥6,079 million. Meanwhile, notes and accounts payable also increased substantially to ¥1,150 million (up ¥807 million from the end of the previous fiscal year), and the equity ratio declined from 71.8% to 62.6%. If inventory consumption does not proceed as planned during the peak season (Q2 onward), there is a possibility that deterioration of operating cash flow and inventory valuation loss risk could materialize, warranting close monitoring of progress in inventory turnover.

As an external factor, developments surrounding U.S. trade policy and escalating tensions in the Middle East are increasing uncertainty over the outlook for the domestic economy, which could affect corporate customers' capital expenditure and uniform replacement demand. Meanwhile, the domestic uniform e-commerce market continues to see new entrants from competitors, and the risk of gross margin pressure from intensifying price competition remains. The cumulative gross profit margin for Q1 FY2026 was 36.4% (versus 36.5% in the same quarter of the previous year), remaining nearly flat, indicating that the impact of price competition has been limited so far.

Growth Strategy

Acceleration of the corporate shift and the company-wide rollout of the hybrid sales model, alongside strengthened Wholesale Sales

The hybrid sales model, which combines web marketing with sales proposal capabilities, is being expanded company-wide starting from the Wholesale Sales (Corporate Sales) division. Proactive proposals by specialized teams to prospective customers acquired via the e-commerce site are raising conversion rates, accelerating the acquisition of high-value, large-scale deals. In 1Q FY2026 (ending March 2026), Wholesale Sales (Corporate Sales) achieved notable results with YoY growth of +41.4%.

Inventory of fan-equipped work wear, the company's core product, has been built up early on an unprecedented scale, leveraging an immediate-delivery system to capture early-adoption demand from corporate and large-scale customers. Merchandise inventory at the end of 1Q FY2026 (ending March 2026) stood at ¥2,172 million, an increase of ¥956 million from the end of the previous fiscal year, establishing a supply advantage ahead of the peak demand season.

Through proprietary exclusive products such as jointly developed scrub uniforms and a renewed mini-catalog bundled for clinics, the company continues to expand order value and customer count in the medical institution market. The Service segment maintained stable growth, achieving YoY growth of +5.8% in 1Q FY2026 (ending March 2026).

By strengthening segmented distribution via e-mail newsletters and FAX DM, the company is efficiently capturing demand ahead of price increases and new fiscal year demand for products targeted at the restaurant industry. Revenue generated through e-mail newsletters increased significantly, and the Office Work segment achieved YoY growth of +26.6% in 1Q FY2026 (ending March 2026).
