Business Details

Manufactures and sells Nylon Film, Polyester Film, Nylon Resin, Polyester Resin, and Polyarylate Resin. Comprises the film business for food packaging, industrial, and electronic material applications, and the Engineering Plastics / Functional Resin business for automotive and electrical/electronic components. In addition to domestic manufacturing facilities, the segment has overseas sales subsidiaries including P.T.EMBLEM ASIA (overseas film manufacturing) and UNITIKA EUROPE GmbH. Positioned as a "business with future growth potential" in the business revitalization plan, it plays a central role in strengthening profitability.

Recent Overview

Achieved higher revenue and profit driven by strong electronic material demand and the effects of price revisions and cost reductions

In FY2026 (ending March 2026), the Polymer Business segment achieved net sales of ¥56,395 million (up 1.8% year on year) and operating income of ¥9,429 million (up 57.1% year on year), a substantial profit increase. In the film business, packaging applications declined slightly due to market stagnation and inflows of overseas products, while the industrial field for electronic materials continued to perform well, and profitability improved significantly overseas due to a shift in sales strategy and productivity improvements. In the resin business, sales of engineering plastics for electrical/electronic and automotive components grew, with affiliated companies also making a large contribution. The expansion of high-value-added, high-performance products and the effects of price revisions and cost reduction measures contributed to improved profitability.

Key Products

product
Nylon Film (including Emblem HG)

Offers Nylon Film and Polyester Film for packaging applications such as foodstuffs. The high-barrier nylon film "Emblem HG" continued to perform well. In the industrial field, demand for electronic material applications remained strong. Overseas, profitability improved significantly due to a shift in sales strategy and productivity improvements.

product
Polyester Film

Sales volume declined slightly against a backdrop of stagnation in the packaging market due to continued price increases for foodstuffs and inflows of overseas products. Industrial and electronic material fields performed steadily, resulting in lower revenue but higher profit for the business overall.

product
Engineering Plastics (Nylon Resin / Polyester Resin)

Applications for electrical and electronic components continued to perform well, and automotive component applications were also steady. Affiliated companies also saw significant sales growth in office and industrial material applications, resulting in higher revenue and higher profit for the business overall.

product
Functional Resin

Sales were flat, but profit declined due to rising costs related to polyester. The company continues to expand sales of high-value-added products and implement price revision measures.

Growth Drivers

  • Continued expansion of demand related to electronic materials and semiconductors (sustained strong performance of the high-barrier nylon film "Emblem HG")
  • Improved profitability through the effects of price revisions (implemented across film and resin products)
  • Reduction in manufacturing costs through cost-reduction measures (synergy with improved plant utilization rates)
  • Significant profitability improvement in the overseas film business through a shift in sales strategy and productivity improvements
  • Growth in sales of engineering plastics for electrical/electronic and automotive components, and expanded contribution from affiliated companies
  • Concentration of management resources as a "business with future growth potential" under the business revitalization plan (increased capital expenditure: ¥2,862 million)

Risks

  • Price competition with low-cost overseas products in overseas markets (inflow of overseas products in the packaging field of the film business)
  • Risk of demand fluctuations for engineering plastics used in automotive components
  • Risk of rising manufacturing costs due to sustained high raw material and fuel prices (cost increases related to polyester occurred in Functional Resin)
  • Foreign exchange risk (affecting foreign-currency-denominated assets and earnings of overseas subsidiaries such as P.T.EMBLEM ASIA)
  • Risk of continued stagnation in the food packaging market (sluggish packaging demand due to rising food prices)
  • Risk of fluctuations in raw material and energy prices due to prolonged geopolitical risks
