MITANI SANGYO Co., Ltd. 2Q Earnings Preview

1H results will show whether profit growth in HVAC Installation and Chemicals has continued, and whether the company revises a full-year plan built on Middle East risk assumptions

PublishedOctober 28, 2026 at 15:30 GMT+9

Summary

1Q delivered record revenue and record profits at every level. Even so, the company has maintained its full-year plan for Operating Income of -11.2% and Recurring Profit of -13.7%. Management attributed the strong start to smaller-than-expected supply chain disruption and procurement cost inflation from the Middle East situation. 2Q will be the first test of whether these conditions persist.

Most of the profit growth came from the HVAC Installation and Chemicals businesses. The key question for 2Q is whether their two distinct earnings drivers continue: higher value-added work in HVAC and substitution proposals in Chemicals. The Housing Equipment business has secured record orders, and the pace at which these convert to revenue will shape the 2H outlook. Net Income was inflated by gains on the sale of cross-shareholdings. 1H results should therefore be assessed with core earnings separated from one-off gains.

Key Points for Next Quarter

Key Points & FocusImplications

Full-Year Plan Assumptions1H cumulative Recurring Profit YoY; whether the full-year plan is revised

1Q Recurring Profit reached 37.5% of the ¥3,900M full-year plan. If standalone 2Q matches the prior-year level of ¥1,500M, 1H would reach 75.9% of plan (our estimate). The focus is whether management revises its assumptions.

HVAC InstallationSustainability of segment margin; order backlog trend

1Q segment profit was ¥893M (+66.1%), for a margin of 17.5% (our estimate). Orders fell 55.0%, so the trend in the ¥21,454M order backlog also needs monitoring.

ChemicalsSubstitution-driven demand in domestic chemical products; recovery in APIs

Segment profit expanded to ¥329M from ¥24M a year earlier. The question is whether revenue gains from substitution proposals were one-off or continued into 2Q.

Backlog ConversionHousing Equipment segment P&L; Information Systems order backlog

Order backlog stands at ¥19,650M (+25.1%) for Housing Equipment and ¥11,394M (-29.4%) for Information Systems. The pace of revenue recognition in these two segments will drive 2H results.

Extraordinary Gains and Net Income1H cumulative gains on sale of investment securities

1Q Net Income includes a ¥563M gain on sale and reached 52.6% of the ¥2,600M full-year plan. 1H Net Income should be evaluated separately from core earnings.

Key Issues from Previous Results (FY3/2027 1Q Results)

1Q Revenue was ¥27,356M (+6.6%) and Recurring Profit was ¥1,461M (+87.4%). Revenue hit a record for the sixth consecutive period, and all profit lines set records for the second consecutive period. Despite this, the full-year plan was left unchanged on a profit-decline assumption. The central issue for 1H results is how to reconcile the plan with 1Q actuals.
